  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Setting up a projects framerate vs changing in Varispeed mode?

Hey there REDHEADS, I'm new here. hope you guys can clarify my question.

We're shooting an ad for a U.S. agency, to be shown in the States, in Europe.

The DP set the project up as 25fps, but later changed to 24fps, by just enabling Varispeed and changing the frame rate.

How does this differ from setting up the camera/project, with formatting the drive, etc., with the time base set to 24fps from the start?

Later we changed our project settings to 24 and formatted a new drive to shoot on. With these different drives (from the 2 different set ups) have any issues in terms of R3D files in fcp/post?

I don't know if I'm leaving anything out that would make my question clearer, so just let me know!

Thanks in advance.

This sounds like he set the project time base to 25fps as though to be worked in PAL land. By changing it to 24fps in Varispeed mode, he's speeding up the footage by a frame a sec when played back at the normal framerate of 25.

Time base is different than frame rate.

Ok, thanks Shawn. I could use a little more clarification...

Does anyone have experience as to whether there will there be issues when creating the DPX files/working in post, in terms of creating a final product for NTSC land (ie 24fps) if we are shooting the project as a time base 25fps and using varispeed to playback at 24fps?

The issue seems to be complicated by our AJA IO HD box. I'll start a new thread to address that. But any other advice or ideas would be great!

The problem is that we can't get a signal into our AJA I/O box when we have it as a 24P project? Anyone who knows what we can do and can we shoot as a 25P project in varispeed 24P and then when converting to DPX just switch th project to 24P?

Help appreciated before we start shooting
