I was wondering what happens to the cameras that were reserved but not taken. For instance if cam # 2345 will not be taken by the one who reserved it all forthcoming numbers would drop by one because 2346 could have this one. I am just curious how this is handled or should be.

Anyone knows?

Years ago, like in Dec 2007 or thereabouts, they were saying those numbers would belong to RED and would not be merely given to someone else. But, everything changes, so who knows?

if i do remember correctly, jim said the cameras are not there (in storage or garage or something) waiting for people. the camera are delivered according to who is paying first by their batch. they just slap the serial number and it's ready to go. i might be wrong though.

Serial numbers for cameras that have been canceled are "retired", not "recycled".

I heard, at one point, that the non-purchased Reds would be kept as backup cameras to be lent to owners whenever their cameras are in for repairs. Don't know if that's what actually happened in the end.

It's probably a moot point... who in their right mind would not go through with their purchase? And even if someone died before getting theirs (that was once a very real possibility, but they are getting them out much faster now)... I don't know REDs policy toward heirs but I assume they recognize their right to ounership.
