  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Did Red ever consider dividing the processing power of the camera and the sensor blocks rather than putting them both into a central brain? I very much like the modular concept (Asides from having to explain it to producers :)). I'm just wondering if it couldn't go a little bit further. If it was possible, it might make the upgrade path more streamlined as well as offer more options for the camera, e.g. a lightweight processing brain for steadicam and handheld or a heavyweight processing brain for studio work with greater options for quality, framerates and resolution.

Stealing my ideas again....damn. Hopefully they don't use it, because I will be. Although, in a slightly different way.

That was the original idea... but it doesn't really work. Given that each "electronics engine" is a bit different for each sensor and that heat management needed to be different for Scarlet and EPIC, we decided to create a matched "brain" for each module. That way we could offer a smaller, cheaper version and ... EPIC.

Jim, you're getting awefully quick at answering peoples questions these days!!! It's probably not a bad thing... Imagine having to explain to producers the exact camera you have with the multitude of setups!
Thanks

Ahhh, I was wondering about that.

can the Brain ( with lens ) be away/separated ( as in feet ) from the other modules ?( as in i have a very small area that only the camera head will fit)

I Donatello must be thinking of remaking "Fantastic Voyage."

:-)

Exactly how he'll deal with the ethernet cable is another issue.

:-)
