Over at rebelguide I found a nice little comparison between all the different chip sizes, boiled down to one single graphic:

1.6 are you sure?

Jeez.... 1/2 looks tiny.

Vista Vision is where it's at!

Quite messy graphics IMHO - seen better - one is here on the site.

At a risk of going of-topic, I must share my thought on another sensor-update thing. Old buddy HVX-200 have always had a 1/3" CCD, but the updated HVX-201A (EA in eu) verion might have an 1/2" sensor. In the press it says, that is have a "new less-noiser" CCD sensor and a new lens that have more wide angle. Well, if you just replace the 1/3" sensor with a 1/2" you get both less noise and wider lens at the same time. :)

Cheers!

The new 200A has a new sensor that is a bit larger but it is still in the 1/3" range, not 1/2".

Very nice work.

Can you add Super 16, Regular 16 and 1/3" imager in your graphic for even more thorough comparison?

Thanks.

The new 200A has a new sensor that is a bit larger but it is still in the 1/3" range, not 1/2".

Then it's not true about the new optic. 32.5 mm to 30.3. Then the sensor is just 1mm larger? Find it funny that Panasonic are lying about the sensor size (and optics).

I don't think they're lying -- it is a question as to when you make the cutoff point from jumping from 1/3 to 1/2. The sensor is larger. Is it close enough to 1/2" to make that statement? Panasonic is being conservative by continuing to label it as 1/3" even though it is physically bigger.
