  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sensor replacement

I'm unaware of any camera manufacturer that will simply replace a sensor on a whim. With the RED One MX, sensor replacement was on the store page and you had to pay full price for it, even after they had the fire sale at $4,000. So, if you want to have your sensor replaced, you need to contact RED and see how much it is but otherwise, if the sensor is still kicking butt, just enjoy it for as long as it lasts like any camera.

Just going out on a whim here, but I really don't think hours have anything to do with the quality and performance of a sensor. If you are getting lit pixels try black shading. If the sensor performs adequately then hours are just mileage and a badge of reliability.

We had an Alexa Mini as a 'C' camera body sent to our set about 2 weeks ago from the rental house and it had over 8000 hours on it. There are many similar stories now that the Mini is over 7 years old (even though Arri is still selling then new).

Sure, Arri cameras have a strong reputation for reliability but RED cameras can also have 1000's of hours on them and still work. You're probably more likely to have issues with other components like circuit boards or the I/O interface before the sensor.

i have had Helium with 2000 hours on it and absolutely nothing wrong with it. i have never heard about mandatory sensor change on any camera
