Greetings,

I went to calibrate black shade on my three week old Red Epic today and what appears to be a sensor malfunction is happening. A purple bar is appearing on the right side of the image. I am lead to beleive this is a sensor issue because when I select 2k res it crops past the purple bar. The issue is visible with or without lenses on. When I went to calibrate black shade there the purple bar was flickering, I went ahead and calibrated it and after it was just a solid non-flickering bar.

Here is a photo of the issue with lens on: www.senseistudios.com/send/sensor1.JPG
Without lens on: www.senseistudios.com/send/sensor2.JPG
And a video: http://www.senseistudios.com/send/sensor.MOV

Any ideas on why this might be happening? Pretty bummed as I have a shoot tomorrow.

Thank you all so much for your time!

Im having a very similar problem with my brand new epic. The bar doesn't appear after the camera temp reaches 48+
Had to send it back for repair...

Hi Daniel, Does the purple bar show up on recordings?

Have you done the usual re-install of firmware?

I've never seen this before and eally ahve no idea, but I suspect the sensor itself is probably okay.

Of course, I'm sure you've already sent the info to your bomb squad rep.

I've noticed many new epic owners complain of problems. As much as I want to take advantage of the Scarlet to Epic upgrade I may just have to hold off. I know I have not had a single issue with my Scarlet but I would hate to reverse that trend. Hope your issue is resolved very quickly.

Rod, yes it does appear on the recordings. According to the thread posted by Milano its a circuit board issue and needs to be sent back. I will try a firmware re-install now. I have already contacted the bomb squad.

Will let you know what happens, bummed, but such is life.

Greatly appreciate all your quick replies and still interested if anyone has more info on the problem.

Cheers!

Hi, try to do a "rediscover" without any battery attached, connect to the ac power adaptor.

Re-Installed the firmware and it appears to have fixed the issue, probably should have tried this before posting and taking up all your guys time (amateur mistake)

I feel like I should probably send it back still to have it checked out, but will continue with my shoot tomorrow and see if any issues re-arise.

Stoked that its working for the now and thanks again for all your help!

I have been saving log files and sending them across for the past 6 months. Each time same response, send us when it actually happens. When I am on a shoot and this happens we dont have the time to take log files...lol
