Hi,

I am in LA and looking for a sensor cleaning place? I don't want to do it myself and dont really want to sent it to Red or just take it to places like Samys. Any other suggestions suggestions? Perhaps a place approved by Red if thats a requirement?

Thanks
-Jean

Remember that the sensor is sealed behind the OLPF. Do you have a dirt on the OLPF, or a sensor itself? If just on the OLPF - any pro photo store / service place (like Samy's) will do the trick. If however the dirt / dust is behind the OLPF on the sensor itself - do yourself a favor and go to RED...

Thanks Peter. The dust looks to be on the OLPF not sensor. I just didn't wana send it to just about any sensor cleaning place!! I feel like if you drive a high end car you don't take it to just any detailing place :-)

I agree. However with OLPF - it will keep getting dirty no matter how well you take care of it. Tiny specs of dust are inevitable to appear from time to time. I alway carry with me Arctic Butterfly cleaning set. It is super easy to use and poses no risk to the OLPF. It will take care of any dust particles and the only thing it can't clean is some sort of smudges (like fingerprints apparently - see the other thread). At this point you can use sensor swab, or just take it to any pro photographic shop - no need to worry and such a service is extremely affordable. Only if dust somehow makes it behind the OLPF glass - take it to RED...

Don't be afraid to clean the OLPF by yourself. It is an essential skill needed to keep your camera in tip-top shape. The last thing you want is to discover dust particle in a middle of a shoot and not be able to get rid of it...

I have cleaned the OLPF by myself and can confirm that its not brain surgery. Just keep everything super clean, have patience, take your time, and don't let your fears control you. I can walk you through it if you're still scared. just email me at jason@CinemaOxide.com
