Sennheiser MKH 418 S P48. ? setting it up

Hey I am having trouble picking up anything using this mic I got today. I have it plugged into channel 1 and went through the sound menu, the audio menu and the headphone menu and still can't seem to get anywhere. Any help?

Yes channel 1 is set for mic.
Yes Phantom Power is set to channel one.

and there should be a gain setting... turn that up to max, just to confirm your not getting anything. test another mic? it could be a defective mic? repeat the test with channel 3. I have seen cams with channels out.

This is an MS mic so make sure you're using the cable supplied with it. The L channel will give you the middle, and the R channel will give you the side(s).

Also with 418s remember to supply phantom for BOTH channels!
