I've been working directly with a manufacturer to create a set of semi-custom water jet cut inserts and cased for my Red One.

Everything is military grade anti-static foam. 2 varieties laminated for best durability- a softer core and a more dense exterior for durability and crush resistance.

Designed for 2 primary cases:

A. Pelican 1510 carry-on that meets airline carry on specs that will house the camera body, LCD, cradle assembly, a Pelican 4 pack CF holder and one Red 140 Wh battery.

B. A larger Pelican 1615 case (terrestrial version) that will hold the camera, rails (up to 18"), EVF, LCD, 2 Pelican 4 pack CF holders, along with a modular insert that will allow the storage of a prime lens set, or a large studio zoom ( such as the Cooke 18-100 pictured). There are 4 multi purpose bays that will each hold a Red battery or a Red Raid. Storage for cables or misc items is under a laminated pad in the EVF section and will hold cables, Red arms, sensor scope and CF reader.

I am also looking into a larger set of removable wheels for the case that will allow easier transport over grass, dirt, salt flats, etc.

I am thinking about getting some batch pricing an making the cases available to users here. What are your thoughts?

I'm very interested in the carry on size, but without the lens mounted for the safety of the lens. Also the EVF looks a bit loose--since more than 50% have ordered the EVF I would say making a space form fit for the EVF would be better than a generic square.

I'm definitely interested depending on where, what currency and what the cost and shipping is like.

Thom,

The carry on version will not allow a lens... Just the camera body well protected.

I would definitely be into that. Looks perfect and love that the camera can remain built to a pretty high level.

Good job.

Never travel, or transport the Body ( PL Mount) with lens attached
Particularly Zoom lenses, even if you have a support system attached.
That weight and stress on the mount will inevitably create not only "back focus"
issues but many others.
If you doubt my word check with your local Film Camera rental house for their
transport policies, and there reason for not doing so.

I would like to get it, but my case is 1560 I think....you don't have that listed? I will show you how mine is setup with some images...maybe we can copy what I have done with high quality foam like you have

Looks good.
I've started to look into a run' n gun option when shooting at multiple locations. I need to store the cam, move onto the next location setup & shoot quickly. This could be a good solution, my only reservation, it would be nice to store the 300 & 18-50 in the same case. Keep us posted on a batch purchase.
Thanks!

I'd be in for the carry on option for sure.

Below are some pics of the carry-on case. I'm still working on getting a few more storage slots in the overall design as well as making a few adjustments for a better fit of the camera and accessories. This is a very tight fit to get all of the items in a carry-on approved case and still protect the camera. Also remember there are notches in the bottom of the case for wheels and support. So where it may look like there is more available space- there actually isn't.

The point of this case is to well protect the camera and allow it to be easily carried on to aircraft for travel. Additional elements would have to be checked or carried on in a separate tote. With this case it's all about protecting the body and a few necessities that could be difficult to source when traveling abroad.

Your thoughts?

The top handle will need to be removed prior to placing the camera in the case- there simply not enough room. There is a small pocket for the top handle and I will confirm late today that the red top rail mounts will fit into the case- as opposed to the ET cheeseplate pictured.

Any other thoughts?

I'm using a 1510 now for my camera body.
I'd love the waterjet cutouts but they should hold the EVF and LCD, I think.

Also can't believe you transport a camera attached to a lense. Ever seen how baggage handles load up planes?

I do not travel with the large case- it's simply for local projects where i may want to have the camera readily avaliable- I would never ship or travel abroad with the camera assembled with a lens.

the smaller case is for travel and the camera is very well protected- lenses would ship or travel in their own dedicated cases.

I would rethink the lens on the camera. A Cooke 18-100 can have a very heavy torque effect on that (aluminum) PL mount. Even if you are the only one handling the case, it's still asking for trouble.
Cheers,
Harry
