Selling custom LCD/EVF and DRIVE cables

Hi everyone! After some months spent in developing and testing, my company is next to start selling CUSTOM LCD/EVF AND DRIVE CABLES!!!

Our plan is to offer:

- 0.5 meters, 5 meters and 10 meters LCD/EVF cables
- 0.5 meters and 3 meters DRIVE cables

Anyway, I'd like to ask you what kind of cable would you like or need... so I could offer the best solutions!

The price will be interesting, ad we'll offer cables at a special prices in the first period. We are settled in Italy, shipping worldwide.

Are these all RED approved cables?

A three meter drive cable could be good for certain situations to isolate the drive from the rest of the camera.

My company made the cables, not RED... so there's no "approvation" by RED.

I don't know if RED "must" approve third party accessories... from FAQs:

RED values the support of third party manufacturers and welcomes the addition of many products hitting the market to join the RED Revolution. Although we don't authorize or put our "seal of approval" on all accessories, we certainly encourage the creative process that generates new items that we haven't even thought of. The ultimate decision of purchase is left to the consumer.

I have not spoken to RED HQ yet, but these are almost certainly NOT approved, as we do NOT publish the pin outs for these specific cables.

So if you purchase you must do so at your own risk. You may also risk voiding your camera warranty and LCD / EVF / SATA drive warranties.

that is great news, but you must do this with Red directly, in order to get an approval if they do allow third parties to develop Cables fro their EVF's and LCD's.

Dear all, thank for the replies!

I'll contact RED, informing them I developed custm LCD/EVF and DRIVE cables. Anyway, if RED will not approval these items, I'll sure sell them (I'm not the first...). I understand the "warranty problem", but after 1 year from ordering your camera, you are not under warranty anymore...
I'm already using my custom LCD/EVF and DRIVE cables without any problems, tested on more than one camera, lcd, evf and drive.

What is their price compared to RED's cables? What is the advantage of your cables over RED's?

Hi Matthew, the advantages are prices and different lengths. As you can read before, I want to offer long cables that can allow, for example, to use RED LCD (false color button...) mounting the camera on a crane, or maybe put the drive off the camera, while using a steadycam...
I'm defining the prices in these weeks. Cables will be ready for shipping in september, and now I can only say that in the first period I'll offer special prices: 0.5 meters cables WOULD cost 99 euros + shipping costs.

The problem with long cable lengths, is there can be a degradation in both signal quality and voltage delivered. i.e "cliff effect" and "brown out"

Which is why we only offer the cable lengths that we do.

Selling custom LCD/EVF and DRIVE cables - FIRST PICS!!!

Hi everybody, after last tests (and your very kind request/suggestions/mails) I'm ready to sell my custom cables for LCD/EVF and DRIVE. Here are the first official pics too!!

These are the models I'm going to sell:

- DRIVE cable 0,5m/18inch
- DRIVE cable 3m/10ft
- LCD&EVF cable 0,5m/18inch
- LCD&EVF cable 5m/16ft
- LCD&EVF cable 10m/32ft

All lengths are all 100% tested and functionally. As you can see from the pics, in DRIVE cables I use ONLY "straight" connector, and not the 90 degrees ones. The reason is to keep the best price possible. Infact, "angled connectors" are more expensive thant straight ones.

In the pics (sorry for the "home made" working shots!!) you can see all the cable models and the RED working with my custom cables too.

Please, fell free to ask me every kind of info, questions or specifications!!!

ASAP the ebay auctions will be ready, I'll post here!
