  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

seeing purple

ok. anyone have a quick way of running a filter or something either in AE or in Photoshop. where it will push the purple tint to white only in the areas that are blownout?

yes. any solution? photoshop can run batches on still images in a folder.

so if I wanted to fix a purple over exposure, I would export that area. and run some magic in PS.... maybe?

Based on my observations of others describing this problem, it appears that any channel that "protects" goes black. In your case, only the green channel went, while the red/blue held together.

Not having seen this first hand, you could try doing an exact color match on color 0.0, in each channel, and seeing if that selects the proper region. My guess is, even other blacks in the same frame probably won't end up at level 0. So, color select on 0.0, and then fill that to 1.0, do it for each channel in the image and save the output.

Just realize, if I'm wrong, and you do have "0.0" elsewhere in your frame, you're gonna screw it up even more so, so make a backup of your footage before you do anything permanent.

andrew! hey!... so it gets tracked... but how does one remove the purple tint?

Easiest solution would be to key the purple area and replace with white or CC it. If you have purple in the other portions of the scene make a mask shape around the desired area, track or keyframe the mask and key the purple. That way only the selected area from within the mask will be affected by the key.
If your still having issues PM me and I can help you further. If needs be you can send me the DPX or R3d file and I'll hook you up.

purple protect.

purple protect.

I'm still having the problem in 15. Not that hard to fix in post, but if it's that easy for me why can't they just turn it off. Seems like such a simple thing.
