I am looking for a set of quality, small and light lenses to fit in one backpack with Red Epic with Canon mount meant for travel.

I would need a set from 21mm to something similar zoom that I have now. Canon 100-400mm + 2x extender

What would you suggest? I would prefer zoom lenses with aperture around 2.8 and don't want to carry more than 3 lenses around :001_smile:

Sigma 18-35 is a must. Sigma 50-100 is great but a large lens. I shoot lots of sports so I have never gone for the 70-200. The can 70-300 L is an amazing lens, and is short enough to fit in your bag standing vertical. It's not 2.8, but it goes to 300 and saves space over a 70-200.

Canon 16-35mm f2.8 II (or III)
Canon 24-70mm f2.8 II
Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS II

All are L series lenses, and have been worth my investment in them. If you get them, I think they will be for you too.

What are you shooting exactly? My advice changes based on that info. I'm assuming you are going to be handheld a lot, since this is a small lightweight travel package. I love love love the Sigmas. I own both zooms and a prime set. However, I would probably go for lenses that have really good built in stabilizers for what you are doing. I would also want something wider than a 21mm as well. My 2 cents below:

Toking 11-16 f/2.8
Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS
Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II IS
Canon 2X

The 17-55 isn't sealed as well as the L series glass, so it can get dirty inside over the course of a long shoot. It need to be serviced more often than an L series lens, but the f/2.8, image stabilizer, and useful 17-55 focal range make it the best bang for your buck. Its also an APS-C lens, but I believe it covers all the Red sensors except the VV sensors. Which Epic do you have? MX? Dragon? Helium?

If you could fit one more lens in the bag, I'd throw in a Sigma 18-35 for night shoots :) Good luck!

Canon 17-55 is a GREAT lens but it *barely* covers 5K...let alone 6K (on Dragon)

It was designed with 1.6x APS-C (Canon version of it) in mind...

I know it's not a 2.8 but I've been using Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 on the docu side of my work. That's the main lens, then I pack a 24 f1.4 and a 50mm f1.2 and I'm sorted. 18-80 is light weight, has image stabilization, full manual aperture and a dope zoom rocker. I'll trade a 1.8 or a 2.8 zoom for all those specs. Plus Helium sensor 2500 iso is clean AF, so a f4 doesn't scare me so much anymore.
