  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SDI Converter

I bought a Blackmagic SDI to ANALOG, and it doesnt work.
Returning it tomorrow.
It does a kind of transfer between HD/SDI to SD Component, but not composite. AJA is your only choice.

What was the model of your downconverter device?

aja downconerter HD10MD (no number 3 here, it's an older vestion i think)

I also had some problems like that, had to to change the setting at the camera playback output at SYSTEM>>MONITOR>>HD-SDI from 50.00 Hz to 59.94Hz and the monitor to NTSC and not PAL and it worked, but then the asistant who took the camera to work told me it didn't. Maybe it "jumped" back to a default (at the monitor).
The down converter was the AJA HD10MD3.

i tested the same. signal which is going OUT from RED is set to 59.94, and monitor is accepting this since it works in both pal and ntsc standards. but if i want to record that signal to DVD recorder - it refuses because my dvd accepts only PAL - NOT NTSC signal. but when i am conecting the very same cable to dvd input (composite) and taking from the very same DVD recorder output signal - and want to record that to ANOTHER recording device - it works fine. signal is accepted as PAL... no comments.

i really do not know what is going on here. i cannot find HD signal recorded, like blu ray with hdmi input for example (in this case i will recodr HD signal) or at least SOMETHING to record downconverted to PAL signal to ANY recording device.

for different reasons QT proxies and playing back from RED's CF is not an option.

maybe someone can help whit this...

thank you,

filip

as i understand, blackmagic is NOT making DOWN converters... just in their black magic PCI cards, not as small standalone boxes. just different converters with NO downconverting.

correct me please if i am wrong, but i cannot find ANY DOWNCOVERTER from blackmagic - in form of mini converter (i.e. similar size as aja's downconverters).

it's a bit messy up here, but definitely forget 720i :)

Only AJA HD10MD3 Miniture Digital Downconverter can do job for Red One.
:) :) And also there is some special BreakOut Box + Downconverter for red , but price is 2x that Aja.

This one is $1099 at B&H with shipping and the monitor wouldn't it make more sense to buy some simple HD monitor? wouldn't a HD monitor for home entertainment will work for displaying an image only?

I have a new BlackMagic SDI->HDMI converter I'm selling below dealer cost if it's of any interest...
