I'm trying to decide on an i/o card for FCP. The two I am considering are AJA's Kona3 and the KonaLHe.

For the type of editing I do I don't need most of Kona3's bells and whistles and since there is a big price difference ($1200) I'd like to go with the LHe.

But, sometimes I am going to need to do SD to HD upconversion which the Kona3 does but the Kona LHe can't do.

My question is....is there another way to do SD to HD upconversion in FCP, perhaps using After Effects? In other words, a software solution?

There's a pretty good software solution called Instant HD Advanced from www.redgiantsoftware.com – even if I don't understand in a Red One environment why you would ever like to upscale again…

Legacy stuff, Betacam SP. I'd toss the lot but my oldest clients sometimes want to use specific shots of things no longer available to be reshot. Not often but I need to cover my ass.

I haven't been to Red Giant's site in years. Lots of new goodies and it looks like they may have a solution.

Thanks
