Has anyone tried to put a screen protector on the new 7 inch touch? should I? First time red user cant find much on the subject. most of all scree protectors ive found im having to cut to size and never comes up right.

I say no to a camera condom. Just don't store it with other crap that can scratch it and you'll be fine. You'll never scratch it while on the camera in use.

We ended up going to a small mobile phone shop and having a matte iPad mini protector snipped to size, works well.

Speaking of screens... are there any special ways to clean a screen? When the light is bright outside, mine shows all the touch traffic.

I use one from Pro K Solutions. Optically clear, touch works totally fine. No residue when you remove them. Its cheap insurance if you do run and gun and occasionally the gear isn't stowed away completely. Like strapped into the seat beside you or on your lap between setups and location as you jump in and out of a van..

Pancro and microfiber cloth works pretty well for me. Lately, I also been using a stylus as much as possible to help minimize prints and smudges.

I also use Pro K Solutions for my screen protectors. Not sure if they finally put up a 7" Touch, but the original 7" screen protector fits nicely, aside from a tiny gap at the top and bottom. If you fit it evenly, it won't distort anything on screen.

There are two versions. The cheaper option is a thick plastic. The other is a thinner matte-finish protector. I tried the matte finish this time around (for sunlight), but I find myself considering going back to the cheaper thick clear option. Optically still great either direction.

Microfiber cloth did the trick... thanks for the suggestion.

I used a stylus. The smudges make me nuts. Ok, I am probably nuts already. :out: I picked up a switchblade. I love that thing and I'm getting petty quick with it. Now if only I can get the AC to use it! Otherwise the microfiber cloth works fine... unless after lunch when it gets really greasy! .. sorry.

Found a few of those at a Dollar Store :)

A clear screen protector no, but I'm wondering about a screen protector cap. Right now, the one thing that I've seen over the years getting screwed up is the display, not during shooting but during transport between locations. The camera is rarely put into the cases between locations, it's more common to just trim down the size and hold it/mount it during transport. During this, there's always a chance that the screen get's pressure damage from stuff when "compressing" the camera size. Now, I don't know why there aren't any caps included with the screens, but having a screen cap like a lens cap just putting it on while transporting or similar would be a tremendous insurance during a shoot. I was thinking about 3D printing one for my old non-touch 7", but there's no guarantee it would work well or stay on.

Could Red please manufacture such caps? Something cheap and plastic with soft cloth on the inside or something.

FYI - I ordered a 7" from Pro-K in early January and there has been no shipment or response from them whatsoever. Can't even reach them by phone. Perhaps they shut shop?

I actually traded emails with Pro K the other day. They mentioned that the protectors are backordered until end of February, but are doing their best to get them out by then. For what it's worth, I found their customer service to be really great.

love the stylist idea that is just brillant!!!!
