  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scratch on the new Macs?

And of course you're absolutely right Fredrik. So back to my original point...

Now with the RED Rocket™ out... what about Scratch on a Mac computer either in bootcamp mode or native with inside of Mac OS X Rocket™?

Scratch will not be ported to OSX until Apple makes some major changes to their driver development policy, which is probably going to be... never. It is not, exactly, on a priority list for Apple to develop drivers and make OS changes to conform to a microsopic sector of their market.

Since Scratch is based around Nvidia's SDI output, and Apple has never written a driver for the SDI module, Assimilate has not ported the Scratch to OSX. All the questions in the world won't change that for the time being, unless their are asked directly of Apple.

It is possible to run in Bootcamp (I've done it) but I do not recommend it. I had some instability issues (minor, but enough to drop it as a viable, day-to-day platform), and there are things that a current release of XP / Server 2003 / or Windows 7 (in a month) will have that bootcamp won't, like the latest drivers that work with Assimilate approved hardware.

Considering the software costs upwards of 5x a PC workstation equipped to deal with Scratch, it is a rather ineffective mode, financially and productivity-wise, to cut corners.

cheers,

JT

Does the RED Rocket Card make the NVidia card not necessary?

No, Redrocket is uninvolved in most of what Scratch does, which is realtime color correction. Redrocket is specifically for hardware accelerating the debayer process of r3d files. Scratch will support Redrocket for r3d acceleration, but the Nvidia card and SDI output are still the hardware 'foundation' of Scratch.

John T.

Thanks John! Now I understand... I wish the RED rocket Card could handle everything... ah shucks. :-)
