Hey there,

I'm currently using IPP2 (beta) on Epic-W I read in the notes it would allow scratch audio on variable fps from the project FPS, currently I'm still not seeing this, am i doing something wrong?

You have to enable "Record varispeed audio in separate WAV file" under MENU->SETTINGS->RECORDING->MODE

Is this only in newer cameras?

I have the SCARLET MX.

is there any to record external audio on video and record scratch one as a backup?
I would bring along a sound person and have them record normal sound on a dedicated sound recorder for the entire take. You can always slow it down and speed it back up in post, and the advantage of that is that it's infinitely controllable and adjustable without compromise. 99% of effects like this are heavily manipulated in post and don't rely on camera audio at all, and instead use a lot of sound effects, bass drops, and other FX to help "sell" the effect.
