We just released episode 2 of our self funded/passion project series. Shot on the Dragon. 2-3 person crew, crazy locations and braving the elements just to get the perfect shot. Dragon held up like a champ. Motion mount was used for about 25%.

Here is a quick behind the scenes look at the final cave scene:

Just watched the first episode; did he say "Planet 5D"? If so, that's funny...

Pretty good! I'm gonna watch some of the BTS (and second episode).

I'm pumped to see the "vfx on a budget" episode... Actually, I'm pumped to find out what's vfx and what's practical.

Really nice stuff, Luke!
I've been a subscriber since your T2i days. You've come a long way. I used to have a T3i and GH2 and learned from your videos back in the day.

Episode 2 is even better... And I have to say it -- those GoPro4 shots offer much more production value than any of the pixel-peeping advantages that dragon has over mx. I mean its 8-bit, compressed to hell, fixed-lens-fisheye video that just looks awesome and actually adds money-shots to the show... (was that Phantom 2 with H3-3D gimbal?) I actually wondered how you flew a Dragon on a budget, but then saw the tutorial links in the description and figured all the aerials were GoPro4 (or did you fly a Dragon?)

Actually most of the aerial shots were on a DJI S1000 with the Panasonic GH4 (still 8 bit!). One shot in the episode was Go Pro 4. That's why I didn't directly tie that drone tutorial to the episode but the post workflow is almost exactly the same. So it's similar but not exactly part of "The Beacon" series of tutorials.

Uhh, okay... that makes a little more sense... Still crazy how well it holds up... And I still can't tell the GoPro4 from the GH4 from the Dragon (granted Youtube's 4k re-compression probably helps to mask the differences).

Excellent job, Luke. Really like it, and look forward to seeing more. Thanks for sharing.

I really like how you intercut GH4 aerial footage in with the Dragon footage and your color grade matches really nice. Would you consider the GH4 a good B cam for interviews and live action closeups? And do you have any LUT's you would suggest for matching cameras?

Absolutely! I created custom LUTs to match the GH4 and Dragon stuff.
