We joined Twitter (I heard all the cool kids are doing it), and have no idea what we’re doing.

My thoughts are, we can use it to announce sales, specials, and to give gear away.

Any ideas on how to get followers? Also, any suggestions on what you would like to see us tweet?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Scott.

As long as the sales and specials you announce are unique to twitter (with a code) and better than any other announcements or specials, you'll get followers that way. In other words, you have to give people that are already on RedUser, other forums and your email list a reason to accept another form of communication. The problem of course is if all those people are already "listening" to you in other ways, then Twitter would serve no point. Also, I've found Twitter is more about "tweeting" than reading other people's tweets. People want to tell people what they've been doing or about their company specials but don't necessarily use the platform to read what others are saying. If someone is following 10,000+ people, how can they? Ya know?

Twitter only works if you provide useful information, if its nothing more than a promo of your product, you will never have followers. Followers follow because they learn or are entertained.

1. Make friends with people.
2. Have fun.
3. Make new contacts.
4. Tweet interesting pics and videos from your life/work.
5. Take it very easy on the sales pitches.

Thanks for all the info everyone. It sounds like we need to rethink what we have to offer (ideas, news, entertainment etc).

One thing that would bring me to your twitter/site would be experience, you've been in the business from a long time, do some articles on various equipment their uses, their value on set, explain some of the more unusual items that you might have (The camera truck/cart thing for example) or some things that would not be thought of but can be useful on set. And then intersperse that with your sales and offers.

Let me know if I'm thinking about this right.

1. We tweet something interesting
2. One of our followers retweets it
3. The people that see the retweet then might decide to follow us to get it directly from the source

Yes, no?

I think you are looking at this too clinically. The key is to make friends there. It's a social network, above all things.

Take a look at Duclos' account. He does a pretty good job, mixing business with friends.

If you guys still have tons of filters and stuff to unload, consider giving some away as a weekly prize maybe. You could say, my 100th follower gets a such-and-such filter, for example. What is your goal, to keep selling off gear, or something else? Also, keep in mind that there are way more DSLR shooters on Twitter than their are cine/Red shooters.
