So what's the scoop? Supposedly threads about the site have been deleted and posts with the site's address are automatically censored.

Is this true? Is Red really not cool with that forum?

I was confused and thought at first it was an official offshoot. Will there be a scarletuser site in the future run by Red? I know Jarred had registered several different domains. Anyway, just curious what the deal is.

Hmm...well I registered there under the assumption that it was legit by RED...someone mentioned that Jarred was running it. I hope that is the case.

Yeah, as did I. I was pretty surprised to read that was not the case. If it's frowned upon by Red Inc. I'm not sure I want to support it. Especially if a legit scarletuser site is coming at some point. Or maybe this sub-forum is all that's planned, who knows.

We talked a while ago here about how Jarred had registered a bunch of scarlet domain names, so I think that's why I just assumed scarletuser. n e t was it.

I saw this post over there in the News section -

Hey everyone,

as you know this site was established to give more breadth to the discussion and speculation surrounding the revolutionary new digital cinema camera, Scarlet. In the hope that one day, speculation will give way to an environment where spirited amateurs and creative professionals nurture this community toward something bigger. we are listening and are implementing your ideas on how to improve all aspects of ScarletUser.*et.

if you aren't already aware, ScarletUser.*et is not directly affiliated with RedUser.net or the Red Digital Cinema Company. instead, it is run by enthusiastic indie filmmakers like you, who eagerly anticipate the digital cinema camera that every low budget filmmaker has dreamt of -- the camera that will level the technological playing field in many respects, so that we can freely explore the content of our work. maybe i'm overstating what Scarlet will be, but that's beside the point. because at the heart of this site, lies the desire to do better work. and creating an atmosphere where like-minded individuals can come together is really what this place is all about, or will be about in the coming months and years.

recently, it has come to my attention that posts and entire threads at RedUser.net that refer to ScarletUser.*et are being deleted. alternatively, I've been told that if you type "scarletuser.*et", the forum software there will automatically change it to "scarletuser.com" (which redirects back to reduser.net). certainly, the powers that be have every right to take the steps necessary to protect their interests. I'm not sure why they view us as "competition" but it's plainly obvious they'd prefer if we didn't exist. but I see real value in an independently-moderated forum where Scarlet Users will be equally as free to criticize, as they are to praise. we are all aware of the "crackdown" that unflattering criticism recently garnered over there. my feeling is that if you can't point to problems, how can you explore solutions?

Anyway, I just wanted everyone to know that here, your posts will not be deleted. the urls you type will not be altered. Scarlet User is a forum that holds open discussion and free-flowing ideas above the fear of competition or criticism. and we are enthusiastic about the new friendships forming here in the truest sense of the independent spirit.

always remember, this community is yours. this community is free. and in more ways than one.

Hmmm..I mean I'm all for free speech and all that jazz but I can see why RED wouldn't want something like that attached to their product.

Guys, scarletuser.n e t is not affiliated with this forum or RED. If you are registering there, fine. But dont register under the assumption that it is affiliated with this forum, or with RED.

to the emerging Scarlet community,

I humbly apologize for anyone being misled and signing up for an account with the presumption that the site was affiliated with RedUser.net or the Red Digital Cinema Camera Company. I never promoted it as such and hadn't even announced its existence publicly. As of this morning, I was still in process of developing and structuring the site because i saw a compelling need for a community that had some healthy distance from the camera's manufacturer, in the same way that DVXUser.com is independent from Panasonic. In the near future, I had planned to approach the powers that be at RedUser.net about operating ScarletUser.ne† as an independently moderated sub-forum -- a sister forum of sorts, because when this camera debuts, there will certainly be a need for an expanded arena that fosters the free discussion of ideas, problems and solutions.

I never intended to deceive anyone. I was caught off guard, to be honest, and did not expect any members this early. but either way, I have nothing but honorable intentions for the future of ScarletUser.ne† and its potential to democratically nurture the creative spirit of the emerging Scarlet community. plain and simple. make free use of it if you feel compelled to, pass on it if you don't. it will be there either way.

humbly and sincerely,

AB3

Same here. Why was Jarred's name mentioned as owner? That is precisely why I joined.

I'm not surprised to see RedUser take steps to differentiate from the other site and Forum. This is not all that unusual. Even RedUser is following on the model of DVXuser which when first started Panasonic didn't like as well. Now, DVXuser is a great partner of sorts for Panasonic.

I see the world existing with both sites in it. I will look for 'official' word and announcement through RedUser and with the other site I'll look for uncensored dialogue without all of the Red Crack stuff I've heard about.

I would encourage Red to monitor them to see what the community is talking about. There will be something good coming from it.

As for jannard running his company like a dictatorship. That's funny. No company let's the employees run policy or the customer base dominate vision.
That's just my opinion.

Addison-

I personally have no problem with a new indie forum for Scarlet. But as your board looks now it's a complete copy of the look and feel of Reduser.net from the domain name to the color and right down to the same forum software. If you want to make your own board go for it. But do something original rather than an obvious knock-off of this board. Right now, it's "confusingly similar" as a lawyer might say....

Yes and it is the same forum software that thousands of other forums use. The only confusing part was someone mentioned the site was owned by Jarred and it did seem to be affilated with Reduser.net. With that said it not a big deal.

Right and it can be customized to look nothing like this board- which it clearly wasn't. Addison knows exactly what I'm talking about....

honestly, I chose a style template by 'vbskinpixel' that hundreds of other vBulletin users also use. I felt it captured the sleek, minimalist color scheme of Scarlet better than the others. wasn't thinking of this site as a reference point. then I added a textured black background that reminded me of what the body finish might be like.

jeez, Noah, you're everywhere... I see you run the WAB boards too!!

Me too. What's the story?

EDIT:

Actually, this should be OK, cause it's just a forum.

Freedom of speech.

Scarletusernet has nothing to do with Jarred or RED. It took my company branding that I have spent years building, and tried to leverage it, and it was very misleading (intentional or not). Not much to really discuss as we have lawyers that are being spun up to deal with this issue.

Scarletuser.com, which is official, will be up shortly.
