  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlett vs Scarlett W

Scarlet Dragon is a cool camera. If I'd find a good deal for one I'd consider it long and hard.

But Scarlet MX, even in a package… I personally feel the ship has sailed. Not to say that if you already own it, you can't make great images with it: I'm SURE you can.

But I wouldn't pay above $4k for a Scarlet MX package.

I just bought an MX package, so I'm pretty familiar with the pricing on the used market right now. You'll pay at least $7k for a low hour package with media and power. Pricing has been holding there for at least a year now. I do hear folks talking about the MX as if it's old news, but really what can you get for under $10k that's better for shooting cinema? None of Red's offerings come in under that price point and then you're left with Canon, Sony and Blackmagic. The Ursa Mini 4.6k is probably the closest (and has some advantages like dr and frame rates), but that's about it. Seems to me that the MX was so ahead of its time that it still is one of the best bets even this many years later (It's only as old as the C300).

So unless you want to rent your camera, why do you feel that the ship has sailed on the MX (genuine question; no snark intended)?
