  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

scarlett competitors in near future

Entirely untrue statement: http://archives.arte.tv/static/c5/pdf/technische normen/2009_EN/HD_instructions_VF.pdf
even HDV or Sd up-conversions are allowed up to 25% of content. In the whole white paper doesn't specify GOP is not allowed.

It depends on whether it is commissioned, in-house or Independent. For acceptable formats. Its simply not true that they will accept anything.

If something doesn't pass the Harding test for example...it ain't gonna get broadcast.

-in the uk anyway.

True ! I experienced it with major tv's in Belgium and France. Sometimes, some of them even accept gop.

I think it often depends on the mood. Or what they are likely to accept.

I have never said they will accept anything. I just pointed out to Bastien Tribalat, that there no mention of not accepting mpeg2 long GOP, as long as it is 422 and 50Mbs, which are all upper end Sony broadcast cams.
CNN just bought 200 JVC GY-HM100 cameras for small run and gun.
Anyway, I can't see Scarlet fixed being used as broadcast camera due to codec, inability to edit content on fly. It might have some nice uses in slower environments, but P2 and XDCAM are too established to switch now. I also think that ergonomics are going to be a huge factor as well.

Cool!

I agree broadcasters are not quick to change when something is working perfectly well for their needs. With Independent productions, in the BBC NATGEO etc are more lenient. Took the BEEB long enough to accept the RED but its very common to see footage floating around now. Not that everyone seems to do well grading it but thats a conversation for another day.
