  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet X vs Scarlet Dragon

Don't know if it is posted on the website any longer but for starters the Scarlet Dragon is a newer sensor with more dynamic range. Scarlet-X shoots a maximum of 4K for video (24fps or 30fps). You can shoot 5K but that only is a max of 12fps so maybe enough if you are just looking to grab still images or to setup the camera to shoot a timelapse.

Scarlet Dragon would shoot 5K in motion up to 48fps or if in widescreen mode up to 60fps. You would also be able to do the same stills feature for 6K since it is limited to 12fps.

Scarlet-X and Scarlet-Dragon are both the older generation body style cameras.

Scarlet-W is the new generation camera and much more powerful (in motion capture mode). Scarlet-W shoots maximum of 5K. There is not 6K for potential stills capture. Jarred has mentioned in the past that the new body style is here to stay until atleast 2020. (something to consider)

Good overview Samir.

I have seen tons of Epic-X and Epic-Dragon packages for sale at roughly the cost of a Scarlet-W package. If you are cool with the older body-style, you can probably get a similarly equipped camera more quickly than waiting in the queue for an S-W. Definitely the direction a few people are headed.

I know that the new S-W will be great, but sometimes you need your tools to work, and the waiting time for this bodies are absurd.
It´s good that you already have a Red Camera system.
