  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet X VS C100 with atmos?

Doesn't the C300 hence the C100 have a known issue with highlight aliasing/fringing ?

If this is the case it should be deal breaker.

It does, but it's surprisingly rare. Sort of like magenta highlights lol...

Overall it is a strange question. It totally depends on the project. And what response do you expect on here of all sites!

But no the prores footage isn't noticeably better than AVHD, however it's a lot easier to ingest and the texture is a little nicer in 422 HQ if you have to recover shadow detail.

I have to c100's, 2 c300's, 1 c500, and other cameras, the Scarlet X is in the same class as the C500, far superior to the C100. The Scarlet dragon will just eat them up. I've never seen or used a Scarlet Dragon.

Hi Porter

I have both the C100 and the Scarlet. And in my humble opinion, there isn't that much between them with regards to light sensitivity, although I have not done a straight shootout. The noise pattern from the C100 is definitely nicer to my eyes. have you done a compare? what do you think? I'm interested in someone else's opinion.

Hey Nosa,

Actually I have viewed comparisons in 2K for the Scarlet versus the C100. A little bit more noise for the Scarlet as the the ISO went up to 12800. It looked better in 4K obviously, but for a true test comparison, 2K/HD was recommended, and the Canon had an advantage, nevertheless, both cameras are still great.

One of the most important benefits of shooting RED RAW is that you can open footage shot on RED ONE back in 2009 and it just gets better with every new colour science generation. No other system offers that. THAT alone for me is worth shooting RED, never mind all the other stuff...

I don't think shooting 2k on the scarlet does anyone any favours. I've pretty much stopped using it. Far far better to shoot 4k/4kHD transcode or scale for 1080p.
