When I purchased the Scarlet-X back when it came out, I had always hoped that there would be affordable upgrade options as new products were developed. The ones offered to me by my rep over the years were outside of my budget. Are there no affordable options to upgrade to something even slightly newer than the currently installed Scarlet-X sensor? If not, I believe the only viable option is for me sell the Scarlet-X and all of it's accessories, which are more than the camera body itself. I'd love to keep this form factor and stay with a Red product though.

Cheers,

You can buy another DSMC1 camera like Epic MX or even DSMC 2 one like Dragon and use the same accessories? Lots of people like me are selling old DSMC1 parts, so if you really need an upgrade you can do it for cheap and all parts carry over by simply selling your sensor for a slightly better model? Or likewise if you want to try a dif brand many used arris are affordable now. So the used market is a good place to look now that red has released so much new technology since then. likewise the Epic W upgrade deal was fairly affordable and I did one to an old unit of mine but i believe the deal has ended

ps ever consider ordering a hyrdrogen one? they are priced really cheap? likely will be a good 4v camera to start out on?

Best to think about what it is that you are lacking with your Scarlet-MX. I suspect the 2nd hand market is your friend, if you want to stick to the Red ecosystem.

Are you after a wider FOV & high frame rate / slow-mo options? (Epic MX)

Are you after updated colour science, and increased resolution, but don't need as high frame rates (Scarlet Dragon)?

Do you need all of the above? (Epic Dragon)

Epic MX & Scarlet Dragon do seem to be transacting in the $8,000 to $9,500 range. You could sell your Scarlet to fund some of this, or use both and have 2 cameras if that provides extra value for you.

Otherwise Raven can get you 120 FPS 4.5K, if you want to move to DSMC2. But then you need to upgrade your whole package.

Probably need to identify exactly what aspect your Scarlet MX isn't good enough on, it may be that this area (High frame rate, colour science, low light performance etc.) is only a problem rarely and a rental or non-RED specialised B-camera is suitable (Say Scarlet MX + Sony A6500/A7SII if low-light & portability was the missing element)

Are you serious? You did get 10K credit after years of use, which is more than you actually paid for it when you bought it new. Think about an Epic customer who updated to dragon in the meantime, resulting in the same 10K credit. I see your point the step up to Epic-W might be out of reach but I think the upgrade offer especially from Scarlet-MX was very generous from Red, wish I would have kept mine ;-)

This basically....I did keep my Scarlet MX, cuz it still makes really nice pictures.

I was hoping at some point to pay another 3-5k to to upgrade the internals (sensor/processor/etc). Unfortunately, that was never an option. There are so many great performing, cost effective 4k+ cameras on the market now. So, I just sold my Scarlet-X. I love the RED form factor and will just rent from here on out if a client wants it. Otherwise, EVA1 and GH5s will probably be my new personal cameras.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
