Any idea how much longer this will be available? I need to make it to January 2016 as it's when I'll have the funds available.

Not exactly sure but I think X upgrades are phasing out as we speak. I'd contact your RED BS rep ASAP if you really want a good answer.

The trade-in is done. Last entry was end of June. Similar to Epic-X -> Dragon update. End of June was the deathline.

We wanted to upgrade both Epic-X to Dragon but we missed the date. Im pretty sure that the date was communicated on reduser but as well they sent out a newsletter, but unfortuantely 5 days before the deathline,
with a weekend in between. Means that you had 1 day to decide and pay and 2-3 days shipping to USA :-) Virtually impossible to do, at least for us.

As far as I know the only functioning paths to date are Scarlet-D to Epic-D and Epic-D to Weapon.

EDIT: Scarlet-X to Epic-X is still present in the store - http://www.red.com/store/products/scarlet-to-epic-upgrade

This should mean that they are still doing the trade-in. As for how long it will be offered I think the answer is "until we run out of stock", but you Bomb Squad Rep is the best adviser on that.

He's asking about Scarlet-X to Epic-X, which I thought was gonna run until they're out of Epic-Xs bits (presumably the left over portions from the Dragon upgrades too...) Or was I being presumptuous?

To be honest though Scott, I wouldn't be surprised if used Epic-X brain prices were about ~$9.5k come Jan/2016. May as well keep your Scarlet as a backup MX or sell it for a few grand and put that towards a used Epic-X.

The link seems to be correct but if you go to the scarlet overview you will see that is not offered. The trade in is not more available.

Yes you're correct I'm talking about Scarlet-X to Epic-X not a Dragon upgrade. I know the upgrade is still available now as it allows me to upgrade when I login to Red.com. I will call my Bomb Squad Rep tomorrow and ask.

I want a new Epic with a warranty not a used Epic... The trade-in makes more financial sense than selling my Scarlet brain and buying a used Epic for $14k

You should be aware that cameras without warranties aren't as perilous as you might think. I am sure it depends on the sitch, but my out of warranty Scarlet MX went tango uniform right after I bought it used on Ebay. I had no other option other than to send to RED. They found a bad board, (the culprit) upgraded two other boards, replaced an audio jack that I didn't know was bad, gave it a full test, set the hours back to zero and overnighted it back to me. All of this was performed for zero cost to me. They even gave me a 90 day warranty on top of it all. Buy new if you can for lots of reasons, but don't discount a camera simply because it isn't new.

Wow thats awesome - Was it free of cost due to the ownership transfer warranty? I just find that $9500 + Scarlet-X brain is the best deal out there right now vs selling Scarlet Brain and putting cash towards a used one for around $14K. You would agree though right?

Not free because of ownership transfer. I did pay the $500 bucks, but didn't send the camera in as they want you to do for the $100 dollar inspection, which as you know, gives you the warranty. So I had zero warranty. Your mileage may vary. As to the upgrade, I haven't decided my best course of action yet. My camera makes amazeballs pictures now. I like you, would like to have higher frame rates. I think your client base is the factor that determines what to do next. I have lots of clients that don't know the difference between my camera and an EX-1. For them, it makes no sense for me to spend money to go to Epic MX or Dragon. For the ones that do, I can rent pretty cheaply in my area, and of course I already have all the peripherals. And as a previous poster said, by January of next year, you will be able to buy a used Epic for probably 9 or 10k. I really think it is an individual basis kind of thing. If you want a new camera, warranty and only need one camera, then the upgrade path is a good one. They certainly don't offer that at Sony, Canon or Panasonic.

I think your case might be an outlier Scot; I've been nickled and dimed a couple of times on stuff that, quite honestly, shouldn't have broke in the first place...

You might be right.....I don't know. I do know I couldn't be happier with the service I got.

Spoke to my BSR - No ending in sight yet...Hopefully I'll make it to January.

Thats good to hear :)

I love my Scarlet and have not had any reason to upgrade since the last year of shorts, full-feature and music videos ;)

I really seek the higher frame rates. Scarlet is beautiful but I want the higher resolution (why not) but more importantly the flexibility to over crank for fitness and lifestyle shorts I create. 60fps in 3k ws just isn't enough for what I want to create. If I was filming music videos or straight commercials in mainly 23.94/24 I'd keep my scarlet all day long.
