First off, my hat's off to RED for building an amazing camera, or should I say yet ANOTHER amazing camera.

My question is concerning the possibility of a Nikon mount for the Epic/Scarlet system. I have only heard news on the PL and Canon Mounts.
The search function is disabled on Reduser.net at the moment, so I apologize if this information is already covered under another thread.

The "before Dec. 31st" Scarlet-X order basically gets you the Aluminum Canon mount for $50 (Scarlet-X body is $9700 alone starting Jan. 1st, 2012) According to the announcement thread.
As a shooter who has mostly Nikon/Zeiss glass, I'd love to jump in line and order the Scarlet-X before Dec. 31st, but will there be a Nikon Mount available?

If anyone can point me to other threads concerning a Nikon Mount for Epic/Scarlet, or if RED can comment on the status of a Nikon Mount in the works or available before Dec. 31st I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't want to be left out of the "Dec. 31st Deal" just because I don't shoot with Canon glass. Thanks.

Jim did in fact say tonight they are working on a Nikon mount that will be electronic.

Thank you, good to know.

After Dec.31st, those of us with Nikon glass could be out over $3000 if a package deal with a Nikon Mount isn't available before then.

I'm hoping that's not the case.

I'm in the same boat as in I have ALL Zeiss F-mount glass but I'm planning on ordering the EF mount Scarlet and just using an F to EF adapter until a native Nikon mount is released. By the way, will Scarlet actually be able to use AF and push/AF with some Nikon and Cabnon lenses?!!

Af will work on canon lenses with canon mount ! Using this mount with a "g" or "f" adapter won't allow AF !

Okay. For $200 you can add an aperature ring between the camera and lens. I didn't know that.
Just didn't want anyone to plan a shoot and be surprised by the lack of F-stops. I would be.

Hi All,

Do we know if the Nikon Mount is going to be available or announced before the 31st December, this could be the last thing to get me over the line with the Scarlett.

Also, do we know if the Scarlett will allow those of us with the newer Nikon Lenses (ones without a manual aperture ring) to adjust the F-Stop? I've got a great 17-55 f2.8 that would be super useful on a Scarlett?

Nikon solution for Scarlet-X

Nikon solution for Scarlet-X

OptiTek Nikon ProLock works on Scarlet-x (and Epic) and has built in iris control for G lenses , proper iris scale, iris gear, etc...
It's also a positive locking mount much like PL that works with all (Nikon)F mounted stock unmodified lenses. We've delivered quite a few with very good customer reviews...

I'm not sure I would care about autofocus but didn't I read that Canon lenses will autofocus with the Canon mount on Scarlet? So I assume the same with Nikon. OptiTek?

hi guys, i've used old nikons on a canon 5d with an adapter ring and always worked fine for me, obviously full manual....i think it would be the same here...or what?
any issue shooting 4k? vignetting? i have full frame lenses not dx
thanx!

Paolo - there are two issues: AF and aperture control. The big issues for newer Nikon lenses is aperture control. Older Nikon "D" lenses have an aperture ring so you can still manually set the aperture on the lens. Newer Nikon "G" lenses lack an aperture ring and aperture is set electronically by the Nikon body. Aperture can't be set manually without an adaptor that specifically does so. Most of the Nikon F to Canon EF adaptors I've seen (at least for stills) only work with older Nikon "D" lenses that have an aperture ring, although I haven't look particularly hard.

Jacek/Optitek - looks like the best solution out there at the moment. i'm guessing your Nikon DMSC adaptor has mechanical aperture control instead of electronic? I'm also guessing VR doesn't really work with your adaptor? also the testimonial on the website says use of up to 600mm without lens support?

Hopefully RED is still making progress on their DMSC Nikon mount. I know the Canon mount allows electronic aperture control and I THINK allows AF/IS (Canon's version of VR) capabilities as well. Jarred posted a video somewhere showing rack focus via touch screen with the Canon mount (I think) and it'd be AWESOME to have that capability in a Nikon mount. I've got a growing collection of G glass that'd I'd love to use with my Scarlet/Epic when I get the $$ to make the jump.

Thanks, Opitek and Pietro. Looks like at least 2 good third-party options for Nikon junkies.
No need to wait for January then.

We use A mount for Nikon F, works very well. Electronic control would be very nice. I know people using Optiek mounts an reports are they are very good too.

This looks like a great option, any chance you can post a side profile shot of the Nikon Mount?

This is going to sound really dumb, but which Scarlet mount does the Opitek Nikon adapter work on? Canon or PL? Aren't those the only options for the Scarlet as of now?

How does the iris scale work? It's an unmarked stop-by-stop scale (since every lens would give different starting and end stops)?

John, it's a mount not a mount adapter (if i get it correctly). You'll unscrew the Canon or PL mount that came with the package from the Scarlet's body and screw the OptiTek Nikon mount.

cheap n easy solution

cheap n easy solution

optitek is really good but if you don't want to mod the camera mount and have a wider lenses catalogue those two worked fine for me in many cases
of course everyone have seen these already
just screw it on the lens u want to use,one is for full manual lenses and other one is for G lenses with control aperture (of course u don't have stop marks)
