Hello guys,

I heard few months ago an FF35 sensor would be available for Scarlet & Epic in 2012 ? Is that true ?

I hope so but nothing has ever been suggested to believe so.

Originally (back in 2008 I believe) they announced a Scarlet and Epic that had the Monstro FF35 sensor. It's what I've been saving up for for the last 3 years.

Then at NAB they announced the "Dragon" sensor which was on no roadmaps but we can only assume is a next-gen sensor. Now Monstro only came in FF35+ sizes. But it was also supposed to be out 2 years ago so it's not a stretch to imagine that RED changed their plan and decided they couldn't wait that long to update their sensor with the latest generation of technology--regardless of size.

So Dragon might be just another S35 sensor but with newer inherent technology... or it might be a FF35 sensor. I desperately hope it's the latter however RED has made no suggestion that that's the case... and I'm not even sure if a FF35 sensor would fit in an Epic body. Originally the Epic FF35 and Scarlet FF35 both were wider than their S35 counterparts. So who knows what is and is not possible. It seems like they would be really short on space in there to cram in a FF35. We'll see.

My assumption (which led me to purchase a Scarlet-X today) is that if there is a FF35 sensor it won't be out until after Dragon upgrades start which is in Summer 2012. So we won't probably see or hear anything about it for about a year would be my guess.

It's weird, as they said originally that with the DSMC system, they would be even able to produce medium size sensor ( with Mamiya or Hasselblad 645 lenses) ... What happened to all this monstro things ?
