Hello
Is there way to make the audio limiter work on the scarlet X? I have the latest firmware but it always says it is unsupported. Is there a magic something to make it work?
Thanks

Perhaps it is only buit into the I/O module.

Not sure though.

Thanks for the replies.
It is strange that noone knows. It was one of the selling points of the scarlet when I bought mine and now it has completely disappeared as a topic. The last I heard was that there would be a hardware addition in the brain but that was just a rumour.

My brain struggles some times to keep up, but.... in an earlier version of the firmware the limiter was enabled, and was shall we say - less than useful? It pretty harshly clipped when we tested it and wasn't ready for prime-time.

Hadn't noticed that it was turned off again - probably for the best.

What a shame. It would have saved my bacon on an upcoming project. It would be nice if they could make it work as promised.
Thanks for the replies

If I remember correctly, I've read in the scarlet operations guide that the analog limiting chain as well as phantom power are not supported in earlier versions of the SCARLET-X camera, and one should contact RED for an upgrade. I might need to do this as well.

I seeme to remember reading the same thing and thought that there would be a brain upgrade. I have a phantom button in my menu.
Then they brought out an IO box and it all went quiet.

This is what is says in the manual. No reference to Scarlet at all.

"NOTE: Phantom Power is not available on non-upgraded EPIC-M’s and early EPIC-X. If your camera does not allow you to select PHANTOM POWER, please contact your Bomb Squad representative for upgrade information. "

On my Scarlet-X, I can activate phantom power but the Limiter says "unsupported".

I think you've mistakenly looked at the EPIC manual. There is a separate manual for the SCARLET, which says:

NOTE: Phantom Power is not available on early versions of SCARLET-X. If your camera does not allow youto select PHANTOM POWER, please contact your Bomb Squad representative for upgrade information.

and

Hmmmm. I'd be curious as to where you found separate Scarlet and Epic manuals. The 5.2 release guide and the 5.3 beta guide are both DSMC Guides covering all models of camera.

I was, however, quoting from an older version of the DSMC guide. The newer ones (both beta and release) do not include a reference to any limitations to the limiter. they say:

"Select the Limiter check box to add a limiter to the analog input signal chain. The limiter adds about 12 dB ofdynamic headroom to avoid clipping on signal spikes. Use the limiter in dynamic environments where externalmixers are not practical for controlling signal strength. The limiter is only available with analog audio input. "

However, my own Scarlet says "Not Supported." Next to the Limiter option even though I am running 5.3.9 (beta).

If you grab the text he quoted and throw it into Google, you get a PDF result of the v4.0 that reads the Scarlet text verbatim... So, it's definitely legitimate. I haven't done any searching of the newer guides, but I'll look later on. For now, this one should include the same text:

The one you are looking at has a date of 2013. The latest guides are available on the RED site under downloads. They are v.5s.

My apologies, I was under the assumption that you did not believe such Scarlet wording existed - so I linked the origination.

I contacted my local RED bombsquad to find out more about a brain upgrade. I have just received a request to send back the brain, at their expense, to do an upgrade.
Therefore, contact your bombsqud if you are missing these qudio functions.
Hope this helps others.
