Dear All,
Ambarish (Rish) Manepalli here, and I'm a new member. I want to first thank this community for their generosity. I've learned so much...
I didn't feel right posting too much before I learned some, so now, I feel ready.
Sam Gordon and myself have been beside ourselves with joy with our Scarlet-X #930 - Ken.
Ken's a she... I'm not completely sure how, but she's lovely. She has a Canon mount, and she's a beast. A rock-solid-beast.
We've been putting her through the paces in Paris as we gear up for the launch of our Paris-based endeavors... Red Paint Films - so watch this space.
There she is... Ken. When I first saw her, I had the biggest, dopiest grin. As did Sam. It was pretty special. Heck, I'm smiling as I look at that picture.
And (Knock on wood) she just works and works on firmware 2.0.5. We've tried Varispeed, focus confirmation, etc. Check!
We've tried about 10 lenses and she mounts them all... um, yes.
We're still refining our rig but we have some key parts that we have used and liked (we have no affiliation with any of these companies, just based on our use).
LiSTAGE
- RED DSMC Tactical Top Plate - totally worth it, so light and solid, so many screw holes, it's a smorgasbord of accessory accessibility !
- Tactical Ribs - Ken has 2, makes a great handle in a pinch
- Cine Arms - brilliant and solid devices, these
- Viewfactor APU IDX battery plate - really well thought out design
- Global Media Pro batteries - good prices, good customer service and solid so far
- We also are digging the Wooden Camera A box - great piece of kit for getting good mics who have real XLR's hooked up (audio has worked great as well!)
Expect this list to be updated and added to (we need a new tripod head, for sure) as we will be adding to this thread with our experiences here in Europe with this bad... girl.
Shoulder RIGGIN'
We have a surprisingly stable and (Really) inexpensive shoulder rig that we'll update once we get some photos.
We took her out and about in Montmartre on our respective shoulders and out in the streets. We've been amazed at how discreet she can be! Rarely a second glance, she's that petite.
Just black-gaff over the Red logos and you're good to go. Don't get us wrong, we love Red for the revolution, but those shiny letters might as well be reflectors.
They do look great in photos though !
COMING UP...
- We're in the process of cutting a short film so we'll definitely post that with more information on us and what we want to do...
- We're also planning a workshop that will present and discuss workflow and how (easy) we've found it.
Especially since Sam and I have a background in tape, media and DSLR cameras we
were expecting it to be 4k raw, 4x the resolution of HD to be tough to handle. But nope. Wrong.
We're intermediate tech heads and we found it no big deal as far as complexity goes...
I'll stop yapping and say that we are truly excited to take our game up to the next level with RED.
The Revolution has been going strong for the past 7 years and we're excited to join in.
