The question before every job that we ask ourselves is "which lenses are the best for this particular shoot?"
We own a Scarlet-X and a 5D and wanted to see with our own eyes the differences and similarities between our most used lenses. We wanted to see if the sensors interpreted the same lenses differently, as well as how the crop factors affected the final frame when comparing these two specific cameras.
So we took our favorite 10 lenses and did three tests.
TEST 1 - Side by side with different lenses.
TEST 2 - Side by side comparing the same lenses.
TEST 3 - Faux interview setup paring lens combinations to achieve an effective 2 camera interview.
At the beginning we show you the untouched footage from both cameras, and then our first attempt at color correcting the 5D footage to match the Scarlet. We did NOT apply any CC to the r3ds, and we keep the 5D CC consistent throughout the video. We did our best to match the 5D image to the Scarlet before we shot. The only 2 cameras used in this shootout were the Scarlet and the 5D.
This was not a test to see how the crop sensor on the Scarlet effects lenses, but simply the differences and similarities of the lenses between both cameras, and what two lenses to choose from the bag when doing a 2 camera shoot with the 5D as your B camera. This was a test that helps our production company and may or may not help you. But, we thought we'd share it in case it helps you guys in your lens rentals or purchases on future productions. Enjoy!
