  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey Guys!

Just wanted to share the excitement. Just had Scarlet #308 arrive today. Haven't even powered her on yet so don't have any footage to share but will be hopefully heading out with Reduser Lliam Worthington next week to do some shooting.

For those that are interested I was SO 1054. AL Mount. Not sure how I ended up with such a low serial number!

Everything but the side-handle showed up (touch screen too, even though it's not pictured).

Taxes and Customs Duties came to about $1330 (It was pretty much all GST)

Congrats fellow Aussie Mate. I'm receiving bits of mine next week, all but the body. What a tease! :)

I've been getting a phone call from Fedex when the parcels arrive on our shores to collect GST etc, I just give 'em my credit card details and they send it out from there.

Mark hit it on the head but basically FedEx holds onto it in customs until you can pay. They will give you a phone call and I've been told they can hold it for up to 4 business days before shipping it back to the supplier (Red).
 
As I live in Merewether its good to know another Scarlet is now in Newcastle. Mine is arriving in the next week or so. Congrats!

P.S. is that a hint of a mythical side handle I see on the edge of frame?

Wow - Merewether! Nice to have someone else around. I'm actually out at East Maitland - but figured more people would know of Newcastle as a landmark :)

Not a side handle unfortunately! Not sure what that is actually. Bomb Rep told me the side handle is a couple of weeks away :)

You're right Andrew. I've been surprised by the amount of Aussie's on the boards actually - considering what a small population we have here! It's a great thing to have a growing local community of redusers :)

And a warm G'day to all the other Aussie owners posting. I was planning on getting down to Melb in Feb, and was organising a bit of Scarlet user meet up, but not sure the work is going to come through now. But maybe a Sydney meet up could be on the cards? Anyone interested? Maybe set a date for March or even April hols, to allow a few more users to get their cameras?

* Quick note on the Fedex issue. I've been getting a lot of stuff in the past two months, first couple times, I got emails and or calls, then a few times since I have received no call or email, and my Touch screen was actually almost sent back. Big kudos to my on the ball re Dan Baum... for saying um, I'm pretty sure he wants that.

Also even when i have had notification, it's sometimes been after a couple of days after i could already have cleared it. Best way as I was once advised, is definitely just to watch your tracking, and as soon as you see it arrive in Aus, call Fedex with your CC in hand.

Anyone interested in shipping, GST, duty... I posted this thread after my Scarlet arrived.

Shouldn't be too much longer, Brad. My Scarlet was delivered three weeks ago and my side handle was allocated today! I've seen a bunch going out with new cameras so I don't think you'll have too much of a wait on your hands.
 
All Aussie owners should be registered for GST, even if you don't hit the $50k income threshold.

Reason being is you get ALL GST refunded so will save $1,300 or so right off the bat. Same with everything else you purchase.

As for charging GST, all of your corporate clients won't be penalised since THEY get the GST refunded that they pay you.

You aren't out any money because you charge your normal rate PLUS 10% GST, which your corporate clients get refunded and everyone wins.

The only ones who would lose are private clients that aren't GST registered. Wedding videography for example would be penalised.

Seriously, don't give away thousands on GST payments when you can get it all back.
