  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet X #248 "Ghengis"

I'm seeing the same thing in footage graded today, ISO 320, balanced histogram, white girl / white snow / overcast light, tree trunks have wicked noise...

didn't blackshade for the cold, thank god the static works for a music video with a seizure-prone leading lady...

I exposed for REDLOGfilm as i would have for the Alexa or F3. Thats a big nono apparently. The RED IS noisy, but only if you push it up 3 stops like i did.

I shot some stuff today @ ISO320 (what i think the real native ISO is cause it behaves MUCH better at 320) and i'm gonna post some footage tommorow. (transcodes take all night... guess i need a rocket....)

The Rocket is something every Red user should seriously consider. Its expensive but gives you the versatility of working like you work with prores footage. I bought one and am receiving it right now, well before my camera to get used to all the quirks!

Just shot some very low light dance performance footage

@800iso, 360degree shutter. Ocean of noise.......

Im doing something wrong....... Ive seen.so much awesomr red footage.....

I'm in precisely the same boat with low-light footage shot in a club recently... the producer saw the monitor and OKed it, he *wanted* it dark and grungy to suit the atmosphere of the club, I did my best to explain matters but I'm not sure he appreciated how much I'm going to have to crush the blacks to get rid of the most objectionable shadow noise. Is there a motion picture equivalent of Noiseware Pro? :001_unsure: (which has always been my go-to application for rescuing noisy underexposed stills!)

Hey Timur, did you ever solve the noise issues you were getting? And if so, any feedback would be great. I feel I am sort of in that situation, but not entirely. Under exposed shadows about -3 stops dance a bit more than I would have thought at 800. Thanks a lot!

As the camera runs for a few days, the chip seems to settle in. Its far better now.

Will post some grabs from latest film soon.

Thanks Timur, would love to see what you have come up with. This camera for me is a huge learning curve in how to light and expose for it. I did some tests tonight for this weekends short, and 4:1 with background about 3 stops under key, graded nicely in RedCine. Thanks for commenting Timur!

Would you love an Epic even more?

18 stops of dynamic range......

I had to let the sun go in RCX..... it just looked unnatural to see the disc of the sun. this represents about 16 stops i suppose...

I played with this picture in hdr efex tonemapping tool to get the look. I hope you don't mind. HDRx is insane, now I understand why they recommend +3 stops instead of +6. It's ain't easy to get the image you want without it being overly tone-mapped. However, pros do amazing things with it in Davinci and Scratch.

That's going to be beautiful, I remember the first time I found your website with the Wollensak footage... a year ago at least... the "woah" feeling still sets in when you watch it.

Did you manufacture the plate for it or is that a nice ebay find...
