  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet with Nikon DX lenses

Well, I'm not personally glued to Nikon lenses. I currently own a D5000 for a personal use. I spent $400 not to long ago on that 300mm lens and I REALLY want my Scarlet sooner than later. I eventually want to upgrade to red pro zoom lens but right now to save money Im trying to only buy what I need. i.e. a bunch of redvolts. If I can get a really nice multipurpose canon lens for less than what I'd spend for a nikon adapter that would be great.

Hey Matt,

David made a good point...if you're going to keep using your Nikon body, sharing the lens seems logical. I'm actually doing that too...sharing my Nikon glass with my D3.

I applaud you for budgeting out the neccessities. Check out KEh.COM for used glass. Currently, they don't have any 17-55.
Moving to a RED can certainly start adding up, make sure to research redvolt usage & charging times. I believe u may need at least
6 RV's & couple chargers to be continuously juiced on set.

Post workflow is also different, make sure you research in case you need to budget out hardware/software upgrades.

Thanks, MARQ LEE. The thing I have to determine now...is buy the scarlet and then buy the nikon adapter or buy the scarlet canon mount and a nice canon lens. The two lenses I have are okay but they aren't certainly great. I'd like at least a 2.8. If I'm going to have to spend the $800 for the nikon adapter I am now trying to decide if I can get a really nice canon lens for that or less.

I looked into the battery options and while I REALLY would prefer the longer life of the V-mounts...I just dont have the money for all of the set up. Not to mention all of the productions I shoot are small one man operations and the size of the red volts are ideal. I'm going to be getting two with the camera, buy and extra 4 pack and then the other two pack that comes with the extra battery charger. Thats 6 batteries for roughly 4 hours of standby time and two battery chargers. Then every new project I get I'll take $200 out and buy a new battery.
