Hi Guys,

Quick question, I am looking to buy a Atomos Shogun Inferno for HDR & general monitoring. I have read on here that the SDI Recording out is only 1080, just wondering if I would be able to record higher frame rates like 50/60fps on the shogun?

The SDI will spit out up to 60P. But shoot R3D if you can!

Yes plan on recording both raw and to the atomos! We have to put together some highlight reels during the event so I was keen to have a 1080 solution for quicker edits and then once we get back to base we can use the raws for the final edit. Thanks for your reply!

Hey James,

I am needing a monitor for my shoulder rig anyway and keen to try monitoring for HDR as well, we are shooting 8 days on the road and I just thought this may be a better workflow? The prores files are still pretty massive by comparison.

I’m using a similar setup, but the time code between the RED and Atomos won’t match-so don’t expect to use a proxy workflow. Other than that 60p on a pretty bright monitor is pretty solid to use!

I have an Atomos Shogun Inferno with my S-W in addition to the Red 4.7".I think it is great. 10-bit HDR monitoring is real and IMO does not lose a significant amount of "monitoring brightness". It is fast to switch back and forth when you need to have the full 1500 nits in rec709.

It is a great addition especially for shooting simultaneous proxy at 5k and having a secondary audio capture.

I have just set up my red with shogun via teradek wireless... how the hell do I get the shogun to record 50fps? Do I need to change the timebase on the red? Wont that then stuff up my raw files?
