Hey All,

Please see attached photo? Other than maybe some third party batteries from swixtronics will this do me for a run and gun package?

This will be my first purchase into the RED ecosystem. Just trying to make sure I have everything I need to shoot shorts/TV Ads, etc. I've used the RED Epic/Scarlet in the past and I loved the workflow etc.

MAX BUDGET - 21000-23000 GBP

you need an expander module to get power, dont know if that is in the hand held package, assuming it is

I would consider the DSMC2 handle over the sidekick. If you're only just ordering now, the handle should be available the same time as you're allocated. Better for run and gun, gives you a lot of the same functionality (minus the screen) and cheaper to boot.

Yeh I did think this but I can't seem to find it on the products part of the page to add on. Might be worth adding to my rep.

If the package doesn't fit your style, you can still delete pieces of the package once it's in the cart and add other ones.

If you say run and gun, what do you mean exactly? I wouldn't say the sidekick is necessary for that. I'd rather use the new side handle - and I don't mean the outrigger.

How will you record sound?

I've got a shotgun mic with xlr input that should go into the preamp then into the base expander right? obviously some velcro rigging is needed... and then screw into a 3/4 screw ontop.

other than that a zoom and a mic on a boom?

By run and gun I just mean 1 man band but I do alot of fashion/sports so not locked down with tripod and heavy camera setup ideally.

As a mostly 1-man-band and shoulder rigged I'd definitely get rid of the sidekick and get the side handle. It should be out soonish.
Of course I couldn't try it yet but I'm sure it's supposed to fulfill the same purpose as the old one although the will be quite different. And the old side handle is perfect because you can control the camera without letting go ;)

Where do you stand on the outrigger handle?

everytime I've done handheld for red stuff... I've always had it on a shoulder rig depending on what's needed for the shot I normally undersling it with it sitting on my waist line and hten one hand under for focus pulling and then normally my steady cam system with the left arm being pulled well out towards my left side holding there?

Would the outrigger do the same sort of stability?

Of course the outrigger handle in no way replaces a steady cam supported setup. Or maybe I didn't fully understand your question.
But with the outrigger and sidehandle or dual outrigger handles, I find shooting hand held close to the chest or lower body very comfortable. Especially for quick location changes, DSMC style photography it's not only comfortable but of course very light weight. For that I usually also use the belt clip to move the weight from the camera to my body. You have to adapt a bit of how you hold the camera usually, and one might need to get used to it muscle wise, depending, but for me being 6'2'', this is a great lightweight alternative to shooting handheld on eye level of the talent or lower. Also pulling the camera to the body stabilizes the camera and eases the weight off a great deal, too. Pulling off walking with it this way is somewhat doable but tougher to do smoothly.

EDIT: I also sometimes use the top handle as a side handle companion mounting it to the left side of the cage or ribs

Yeh make's sense I'll invest into the side handle module once it's online.

Side note... I'm 6'2 on a hill does that count.

Thanks for your advice bud! this forum is full of incredible people!!

Have a great weekend.

Time to sort out my finance's and put down on a package!

If you plan on doing handled with outrigger handle, then ditch the redbricks package they are too heavy.

Go for dynacore or Global Media Pro -R models, starting 95w.
Especially ditch the Red Brick Charger, and go for GMP's. The Red one charges only one brick at a time.

It will be cheaper, lighter and better to go GMP.
