So, I have my awesome Scarlet-W and have been "getting my hands dirty" filming. I have a shoot coming up in the Florida Keys, and it made me wonder if there were any special considerations when shooting in really warm climates for any length of time. Just operating in pretty mild temps right now tends to generate a nice "hand warmer" stream of hot air from the brain. So I thought I would see if I need to take any extra precautions when upping the environment temperature.

When they shot Che on the original prototype RED Ones they sometimes packed the cameras with ice. ;-) I think we are mostly past those days now. LOL

If you have the fans set properly - consider tweaking for the conditions you are finding as you shoot - you will be fine. If, for some reason that I can't really imagine, the camera got "too" hot, it would shut down on its own.

Keep batteries and cards chilled in a vehicle. Swap as much as you can.

I've shot my Scarlet-X in FL lots of time and I've never had an issue. You should be fine with internal fans set properly.

Thanks for all of the tips... I'll give them a go. Sounds like if I keep the camera within the same comfort levels that I would want to be in (be under a shade when in the hot sun, etc) I should be OK. Good to hear! Loving the Scarlet-W so far!

A few summers ago, I was AC'ing on an Epic MX in Redlands and I improvised this little solution. Still immensely proud of it! :) Although if I had other options I would have used a black one instead of rainbow one hahaha.

This umbrella+EasyRig trick was more for the DP than for the camera, and that was on an Epic MX. The camera performed fine, even without this trick. I think you'll be ok with a Scarlet-W. Just make sure to set all your black shade temps to a few degrees higher than you normally would set for a studio shoot and you'll be fine. The camera will basically take care of the rest as long as you are on adaptive!
