Normally, I avoid HDMI, however, I’m getting a Paralinx Ace which is SDI only, so I need to hook my 7Q (not the 7Q+, the original 7Q) up via HDMI since there is only a single SDI port on the Scarlet-W I/O Module.

However, I cannot get the 7Q to work via HDMI. It works fine when going through the SDI, just not HDMI. I went through the menu and hit every button, but to no avail.

I know the 7Q HDMI is functional because when I connect the 7Q to my Canon 60D, the 7Q HDMI gets picture instantly, just not on the Scarlet-W. I know the Scarlet-W HDMI works fine because my SmallHD DP6 works great via HDMI, just not the 7Q. I know the cable is fine as I've tested that as well.

What am I missing? I'm hoping I'm just missing a check box somewhere.

Why not connect the 7Q to the camera via SDI and the Ace to the 7Q's SDI out?

Thanks Jon. I thought of that but unlike my SmallHD which has zero latency through SDI, HDMI and Nyrius, the 7Q for some reason has visible lag / latency (more than the SmallHD) which would not be good for focus pulling, which is what I'm using the transmitter for.

i suppose I could do what you suggested and use the SmallHD on camera and the 7Q for the AC, but the 7Q is such a nice monitor with great features I would miss it.

Makes sense. I'm sure you've considered this as well but another option would be one of the third party accessories (like from Tilta) that adds additional SDI's.

One final question,

Can anyone recommend the smallest SDI splitter on the market?

Thanks again Jon. I'm trying to keep my setup as light as possible.

I think the best thing to do is plunk down an extra $800 and get the Teradek which has an additional SDI port out. Mo Money, Mo Money... :(

I'm convinced HDMI is the Devil's connector. Too fickle. My FS7 has problems with HDMI as well, but BNC / SDI always seems to work.

I can't vouch for its quality, but: http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=10321

Seems like a low-risk option, at least :)

I'm not a big fan of HDMI either. We're using it in production a fair bit right now, but it's a budget-driven rather than preference-driven choice that we plan on moving away from. Fortunately, the only thing left that we are using in production that's HDMI-based is our wireless video (Paralinx Triton) set.

Do you run your touch LCD through a side pogo by any chance?
