  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I was very fortunate to get a chance to play with the Weapon, Scarlet-W and Raven this week. RED had an event at Abel Cine Tech then had the cameras at the store the next day. I attached my newly designed anamorphic lens (40mm f/2 1.5x Wonderscope) and had some 5KHD 48fps fun around the store.

Thanks to Rique and Jonah at the store for dealing with me all day. As a bonus I finally got to meet my Bomb Squad Rep Austin.It's great to have Austin and he always helps every way he can but it's been really nice to have the Red store to pop into. A few weeks ago I was in desperate need of a Standard OLPF for my last shoot and Rique really came to the rescue. Since so much of all our Red knowledge is forum based it's no nice to be able to actually be hands on and see the gear in person and ask questions to another person. My only problem is that for some reason the store isn't well stocked and a lot of things I want to see/impulse buy aren't available there. I hope that will change soon.

Check out the film as my ode to RED New York starring Jonah, Rique, her dog, Miles the NYU student, the other guy who came in and Ethan Sigman (the guy who runs http://www.productionmeeting.com). It's still a pre-production camera but I think it looks great.


Also, I did a set of Dragon vs Weapon vs Alexa Mini tests with Summicron-C, Master Primes and Super Speeds that I will be sharing later today. Hope they are helpful to everyone.
 
just curious, i dont think it's de-squeezed enough, people seem to be still stretched a little bit.

and i know how it is after looking at it so long you seem to loose perspective.
i would try to squeeze it a touch more.
 
Yeah. Sadly the Scarlet files won't play natively in Premiere so I had to export from Red Cine with a guess squeeze and play with it from there. Once I can dig in it will be easier. Thanks for the input.

Wait..........huh? I thought Premiere had native R3D support for ages now? You're running latest Adobe CC right?

Won't play natively in Premiere? Are you running CS6 still or do you have the latest CC2015.1? That's weird since dragon has been around since about 2013.
 
I think they need to update CC sdk maybe? That might be the culprit cuz didn't Phil need a special firmware for his CF weapon stuff or was it only his 8k stuff? If its supported yet newer CC should have it
 
Weapon Carbon footage worked no problem but it didn't like my scarlet footage at all. Anyone have ideas why? Newest premiere and everything
 
Time by Hans Zimmer. Incredible track. I personally think he should've won Best Achievement in Music for the Inception movie. It really captures the emotion of Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy) when his father died. As well as the action scenes. A really well done piece. Also Interstellar's music is incredible. Hans is one amazing composer
 
XXXXXX - Sorry but thats just some of the worst footage Ive ever seen including iphone/DSLR amateur footage , If any one posts more crap video-ish footage like the dog shit video in the rental house, I will cancel my Red Scarlet W - Ive seen a few scarlet w footage & I must say its not looking good, RED PLEASE release a cinematic trailer for the S-W - Iam starting to see no difference between the panasonic varicam LT which is videosish & both the raven & Scarlet, We desperately need a proper cinematographer to make a Trailer for the scarlet W - Pretty Please with a "Scarlet' Cherry on top .... & some cream (thats full cream cream, non of that skimmed milk)

Worse than iPhone footage? Talk about a huge exaggeration. A.) If you noticed, he admitted he shot at the incorrect shutter speed. B.) Take into account YT compression and what data rate and codec was used. Not sure what it was? C.)Please cancel your order so I can get mine in sooner.

I'm sorry if I sound rude, yet I don't see you doing anything but comparing footages. Even after getting your hands on a Scarlet W, you're probably going to run out to the park or beach record something and then compare it to your DSLR or iphone footage. Probably going to zoom in 100% and see if there is macro-blocking and the such.

I said this once, and I will say it again... All this and any Red camera is giving is more resolution, more DR and relatively high frame rates.
You are not going to be able to point it to the sky and say "I have the power!" and turn into the He-man of cinematographers.
If you can't do anything special with your iphone or DSLR footage, you are not going to do anything special with the Scarlet-W (at this point, you're just wasting money and time).

If you can't understand that, try this... take a video of dog shit with your iphone, then take a video of dog shit with your DSLR, lastly... when and if you get a Scarlet-W... take a video of dog shit again... then compare it... does any of the footages automatically turn into gold?

Seriously people. A little civility never hurt anyone. Don't like the video? Just say it wasn't what you expected it would be. Why the need to trash it in such a rude manner?
And do we really need to start talking about fecal matter in this forum?
Decorum, civility, courtesy and grace. All qualities that speak much louder, but are heard much less in these interwebs...
