Some stuff I've read or heard that I wanted to check:

Redcode is 4:4:4 color sampling? Which means that any way I shoot any Red camera, technically it can meet broadcast standards (somehow)?

Scarlet's 2/3rd sensor's field of view is accurately represented by the HD 2/3rd fov on this website?

Canon FD lenses won't work on any Red? Will my m4/3rd's lenses work well? I'm already assuming I'll need to buy a whole new set of lenses with the new cameras.

Epic Lite will be available before Scarlet because it's part of the Epic line?

I realize these forums are getting a lot of attention from new users... I've lurked here for a long time off and on without making an account. I'm stuck between buying an af100 and then a Scarlet or Epic or just waiting for the Scarlet or Epic. My very first camera was a Gh1 when they first came out as a cheap way to learn. I don't need to be persuaded to buy a Red, I'll get one when they're available to purchase (not interested in the Red One due to its price vs all the amazing features on the next gen Red's and their price estimates). The only reason I say this is so you guys understand my background before replying. I'm learning as much as I can from knowing nothing before.

Redcode records unencoded raw Bayer data in a mathematically compressed file. How the color sampling is represented in an encoded YCbCr video format depends on what format it is transcoded to. 4:4:4 is one of several potential options.
Since the amount of data recorded per frame is much higher than any HD video format, meeting broadcast standards is no problem. It is a matter of post processing the image in a way that does so.

At full resolution it is a little bit wider, 1.89:1 digital cinema ratio instead of 1.78:1 HDTV ratio.

Red's mounts are interchangeable. Canon FD and m4/3 mounts have not been announced yet, but FD is certainly possible. Don't know about m4/3 though.

First off, good job David, with the answers.

About the EPIC Lite, it has been renamed to be the "EPIC-S". Concerning its delivery, I'd actually expect the EPIC-S's to be coming out AFTER the Scarlets. Why? Because the Scarlet's production will not effect the EPIC-S's delivery. But it all depends on how many EPIC-X's are sold directly influences how quickly RED can make the "S" a priority...

It's cause there are unanswered questions before my post on the threads I post in. :)

The X and S will supposedly be the same everything except for datarates and framerates.

By the way, I was reading through an old interview with you last night that was posted back on Feb 2nd, 2006. It was really cool to see the assurance you had in that 4K was definitely the not so distant future. Now, we are seeing this 2nd generation of RED cameras (actually 3rd, if you count the MX upgrade for the RED One) just as we finally see Sony putting together a "roadmap". I'm glad to have my support behind the ones who built the road and not going off of a "map". I can't wait to purchase an EPIC...
 
well said Joseph... I too not so patiently await the time for the S buy now button to go live. My 17-50 needs its own camera to call home.
