  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet vs Canon 1DC...?

A7S doesn't output RAW video.

Shogun is cool and hats off to Atomos guys, but it makes more sense with larger and heavier cameras, with ultra portable ones rig's weight distribution and ergonomics is likely to turn into a circus. Something more portable is required to fully utilize the potential of cameras like these.

I have the 1Dc which I love. No, not raw, but the codec is amazing IMHO. No more H.264 artifacts! Just need to remember to shoot at or above 320 ISO. Need a 2nd 4K camera and will wait till Photokina(September) to decide. If Canon doesn't have something better than Sony's A7, will get the A7 + recorder. I prefer the DSLR form factor for its stealth factor and versatility, though if I had the cash, would get the C500.

We have just wrapped a 3 x 1 hrs natural history show for ABC and PBS, shot with two Epics, 1 scarlet and 1 DC. All cameras were awesome and the 1dc is great compliment for an Epic. For underwater sequences there was a noticeable difference in quality between the Epic and the 1 DC due to banding etc, but they cut together pretty well. However filming an overturned boat getting smashed on a reef would have extremely hard work using my gates / epic combo compared to a DSLR. Different tools for different jobs
