What's a the highest no-brainer price on a used Scarlet.

Just the brain. 7K maybe?

What do you mean no-brainer price? It's pretty damn subjective, that's the problem.

The other problem is that a used Scarlet, no matter how unused it is, has no warranty and costs $500 to transfer ownership (which is essentially required, although it gives you 90days warranty.) Worse still, you have to send it in to RED for recertification, which costs ~$150 shipping both ways (although that's dependent on distance). Did you even look at the "RED Stuff For Sale" forums? I've seen a few SX brains for ~$6k that have been up for weeks.

Why do you ask? Are you looking to buy or to sell?

5k tops, one just sold on this forum for that exact amount, brain only.

$5k tops?! Are you kidding me?

I say $7k for a good condition Scarlet, and go down from there.

As far as "no-brainer" I meant SPECULATION on the max price one could charge where it wouldn't be sitting around for very long. $5500, 6K, $6500?

I was just curious. I use Epic a ton...nearly every shoot which translates into one or two commercial shoots a month on average (maybe 3-6 rental days). I own a Scarlet, it gets used and is a fantastic camera, but its a harder sell than the Epic. Thinking of an upgrade and having not thought about it previously I'm wondering what makes sense to folks looking for Scarlets.

The market pays what the market pays, but 5K seems very low. Though I've been mistaken before.

Seems like an "oh shit I need Christmas money or the wife will kill me for buying this camera" price. ;-)

The brain that went for 5k sold in a few hours.

It def would be a no brainer price then wouldn't it.
I see one on the forums going for $5500 where the buyer pays transfer and shipping. That is getting a ton of interest.
Also one at $6500...not as much traction.

5K is awfully low. There is no BT ones anymore. I would think $6500 is where it should live for a while.

yep. Anyone who buys one at that price gets a deal. Though how does it compare to any of the package pricing. Obviously buying a brain also means buying the other stuff.

im just saying ive seen a brain only go for 5k and 5500. arent they only 7900 brand new?
also i see an influx of sales due to the rumor that epics will have the dragon sensor next year and the scarlets might not have them until 2014...
the brain doesnt let you shoot though and of course that should be taken into consideration. ive also seen full shooting scarlet pkgs go for 10k-12k, there two for sale for that price right now on here.
i just had the 1D-C from canon at my house for a few tests, its basically an even smaller scarlet, 4k at one frame rate, 24.

Where did that rumor come from? Seems to me the influx of sales is because people are upgrading due to the price of an Epic being considerably cheaper now after the recent price cuts.

There is no deal with the package pricing BTW.

It the 1D-C a raw camera?

Jarred and Jim both said Epics will be upgraded before Scarlets. So theoretically that may not be until late 2013, or even 2014 before the scarlet path is announced. Obviously depending on how long the upgrades take and how many cameras are being upgraded.

That's what I thought. It is not even close to a Scarlet.

its also 12 thousand dollars...i couldnt figure out why, and not being raw, ill tell you one cool thing it had for 5D users.
you could choose a super 35 size sensor and you get the focal lengths our lenses use do be back in the film days!

though, ive been on a hunt for a scarlet deal, just because i shoot so much vfx that 4k is what i need, and though its so cheap to rent, i like the idea of being able to offer production a deal on the small jobs where they cant afford to go to a camera house, plus my footage will look better in the end. so ive seen scarlet close on ebay and this forum from 5k-6500, but a no brainer price...like a price where its like i cant turn that down...to me is 5k...6k and i have to think about it, but youll probably get it.

I would say 5K is firesale low. You should be able to get $6500 for just the brain depending on how many hours of operation it had. You might be able to sell better with some accessories thrown in.

In the end, if there are a lot of sellers, it'll be hard to find a buyer regardless.

Yes, they did say Epics will be upgraded first. I'm pretty sure they also said they would be selling new Epics with the Dragon sensor while still upgrading Epic MX owners. Right now we don't even know with 100% certainty that Scarlet will get a Dragon sensor. There may just be an upgrade path to Dragon Epics for Scarlet owners. I expect that we will start to have answers in the next month or so though and I really doubt Scarlet owners will not be able to upgrade until 2014. Things are more competitive now. I think they have to move faster. I also think they have the infrastructure in place now to do so.
