I just got the Scarlet and love it and now I want the Epic!!! Should RED have an upgrade/trade-in path option from Scarlet to Epic? Wouldn't this just be a processor upgrade?

I for one would be willing to pay the price difference for the upgrade :-) Just a thought!

If you'd be willing to pay the price difference just sell the scarlet for what you bought it for (which you will get because its new, and the price has increased since you ordered it), and then buy an epic from the store. ... Red doesn't have an upgrade path because they both are out at the same time.

I doubt there will be an upgrade path from Scarlet to Epic. The only upgrade for Scarlet that is known of is the potential upgrade to the new dragon sensor, whenever that is released.

I'm I'm the same boat man, I'm already itching bad for an epic. Way I see it, all I need is a epic body, as I already have the. Mount LCD and media.

Shouldn't be to difficult with the summer coming up. ;)

This is exactly the point of the DSMC system! :)

The upgrade path is to simply buy a new brain and the same will hold true for Epic users who want an 'upgrade path' to any of the new, larger format cameras currently in development.
I personally think RED are crazy to have gone one step farther to offer an in-brain upgrade path to RED Dragon when it comes out (something offered to Scarlet owners as well at a slightly higher price, if I'm not mistaken).

Not Right now!! But soon I hope if no other options are available. Gona have to put lots of more pennies in the piggy bank(red account) but I can still wish in the meantime ;-)

I hope, although doubt it, that with sensor upgrade one can upgrade the camera all together as an option! I need HDRx @ 24 at least and more Frames :-)

I hope so! After playing with my buddy's Epic I want it really bad.

Scarlet is a gateway drug.

Yep! and I refuse to go to re(d)hab :-)

My understanding is that both in terms of performance and cost, the Dragon upgrade will get you there... Or really damn close.

The Dragon sensor upgrade for the Scarlet requires an upgrade of several boards internally as well. So the price of the upgrade for Scarlet users are more significant, but I do believe it will get you closer to the specs of the Epic, as the Epic will be making another leap in quality with the Dragon upgrade too. It would seem that everything changes for the better, huh? How fast do you want to go depends on how much you want to pay!

What still lenses under the dust? Leica R's? am sure you can find them a nice home and make someone happy?

If scarlet is a gateway drug, I mainlined when i got my Red Prime 35mm ... I now have 10 still lenses that I once thought were really great, but now are just dust holders someplace ... I'm starting to randomly dream of a arri-zeiss masters or the mythic new RPP's ....

The fact that Red will be upgrading scarlets makes me think dragon will be pretty cheap. If a scarlet brain costs less than $10,000 and it makes sense to upgrade a scarlet to dragon then the dragon upgrade should be well under $10,000 too. I'm gonna guess $7,500 for scarlet to bring it up to the original red one price.

Epic not requiring chip upgrades means it will probably be 6K FF at 96 FPS while still allowing 5K S-35 at 120 FPS. Scarlet's chip upgrade should allow for 6K at 24 FPS.

The real question is whether there will be another price increase for epic. I doubt it.
