  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet update in mid-May

Just to jump in here with one point - those "updated specs" are almost 5 months old. (You had me excited there for a moment.) :emote_22_yikes:

Yes, completely outdated for our grace :-) The new Scarlet(s) will rock better.
 
I can predict what the announcement will be: "Scarlet is amazing, and will be realesed sometime in the future". There...you can all relax now...

im a red fan but with this "open discussion" way of doing business seems more like bait & switch never ending hype

it feels more like chasing a carrot at the end of a stick

what has it been 3 years now?? how many updates and announcements 6,7,8??

every 6 months ... Oct 09/Nov 09 .. i remember sitting there in anticipation ..thinking i cant wait

just for more renders and specs

before you people start screaming and yelling

I am the customer

in the end I am what ultimately matters to a business

REDs losing hundreds of us .. a lot of people are so irritated they wont deal with RED on principal but i doubt that matters because we wont be staying at the RED mansion any time soon with a scarlet purchase

And now it is almost summer and he takes medical leave, do you think there could be a correlation?

Is Canon 1D M4 a better alternative. Are they not aware of the Scarlet release or are they confident that it wont get released any sooner.

Actually two years is more like it. That is a very short development schedule to take a product like Scarlet from concept to final production. It is not just a single camera but an entire line of cameras and modular accessories incorporating just about every significant feature that people have asked for in one way or another. Unknown numbers of us have been part of that design and development process through ideas and feature requests contributed here.
The temporary loss of customers to other cameras will likely come full circle in a year or two when the other cameras prove to be inadequate and obsolete by comparison. I don't think Red will lack for customers.
 
I am already considering T2i, atleast temporarily, and with pain.
 
It definitely will be a boon to innumerable people and this time it will touch a much larger numbers. Maybe I will hold on till this month end

I am sure they are doing their best, but... and we are expecting so much from them because we are confident that they can deliver

It doesn't seem that way at all ... it is simply an incredibly open and unique way of keeping the customer in the loop. RED lets us all participate in the incredible journey. Buy/Rent/Borrow a used HD camera and shoot a film while you wait, then take what you have learned and reshoot it when you get your RED System.
 
Probably off topic and redundant but I have to say, even a minimal update would be welcome. And it would momentarily silence the community. We are probably getting slightly annoying.

I'd do it with joy, $800 = shoot the heck out of it then sell it on ebay for $600, or 500, or 400.. You'll get at least half your money back but will have gained invaluable real life shooting experience..
 
I was out shooting yesterday, I'm not letting a camera delay slow me down. I own many cameras and will be happy to add a Scarlet to my collection when it is ready. They just did NAB and had a Red day and here people are still bitchin' for updates? They have been updating us as far as I can tell. With the worlds economies in crisis Red has a new set of problems to deal with that 2 years ago was not on anyone's radar. No one is forcing you to buy these cameras here. RED has a shipping product so buy it and stop bitching. Did Oren Peli, who made Paranormal Activity sit around waiting for a Scarlet or did he just go out and shoot with a FX1? he went out and shot. A Camera is not going to make your movie for you. Red is not holding you back. You have freedom of choice. I'm spending my time waiting working with what I have, not what I wished I had. I can wait for a fully working Scarlet Vs a buggy rushed one now.

I can't help but note that you have made your dissatisfaction known, loud and clear, many (many!) times. Yes, you might be the customer (maybe), assuming, of course that you decide to buy. Until you buy, however, you are, like the rest of us, a PROSPECTIVE customer. And yes, your decision to NOT buy or buy, will impact RED but, in the case of ANY individual, only to a very small degree.

There are people like me, shooting with their current camera (in my case a JVC HD110) who will wait for Scarlet. And, there are many people (maybe you?) who will choose NOT to wait. As others have pointed out, everyone is free to do whatever is in their own best interest. That goes for you as well. If you don't want to "put up" with RED's way of communicating, perhaps you'd lower your blood pressure if you stayed off the forum and just waited until you hear the announcements in the general industry press.

Personally, I find it kind of fun to be in on the whole development thread; hearing about things as they happen. And, since I don't have a desperate need for the camera today, I haven't let the anxieties of waiting get in the way of that excitement. The way I figure it, the camera is very likely to be far ahead of anything else available when it is released. If it isn't, then I can choose to buy whatever surpasses it. It certainly promises to be way ahead of anything I could buy today, so why would I want to "give up" on waiting? I am just going to enjoy the journey.
