  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

scarlet tv??

Old news...

Still, I'm not so sure about the 120Hz thing. Every LCD I've seen with the 100hz technology looks like pure shit. It's only a way to create images in between like a bad GOP structure.
When watching a movie that was recorded in 24 frames per second (35mm), it looks like 50 frames per second or more and with artefacts all over.
I really can't believe that people fall for that shit...

heh... And I thought that the 100hz thingy was more of the kind of a "butterfly shutter" of a projector, just showing the same image more times... not interpolating new ones...

Looking at the images you can see the same artefacts as when you do simulated higher framerates in post. Where two images create new ones in between. If the motion is too great between two images, then there is an artefact of parts of the image or object in motion not knowing "where to go".

As soon as there's alot of movement it looks like crap. A fast pan across an audience is really like... wow, I can't believe how crappy this looks!
Even the guy in the store when I was about to buy a HDTV told me: "don't buy these ones, just look at them" (when they where new).

An LCD display can have the ability to show framerates up to it's frequency and my HDTV can therefore show 60 frames per second. It's quite enough... and I don't think framerates over 30 looks good anyway.

hmm... When I go into stores I often am quite shocked at the low quality they are showing... But I have always thought of it as being results of EXTREMELY poor choice of wiring. Electronic stores are selling "full HD" LCD-TV's by hooking them up to regular SD-low-quality sources... I never understood why, and I never could get how people would actually buy anything that looked that bad.

I base this opinion on the fact that my parents has one HD-ready TV (meaning 1080i or 720p)... that does 100hz... But I was careful to hook it up with component wiring and now I see better images on that TV then TV's for double the price, but hooked up sub parly, in Electronics Shops...

If you see a bad picture in the Electronics Shops I would ask you to walk behind it and see what they use... because more often then not, it's a coax SD-composit cable from a RF-source that runs the set. That ugly picture, coupled with shitty upprezzing is the things that made me think was the source of shitty pictures on the new sets displayed.

Well, he showed me blu ray material over the highest class of HDMI you can get a hold of, so everything was fine except that 100hz look. It's not 100hz, it's still 60hz so they are in way not telling the truth.

The store I bought my HDTV in was actually a audiostore, but they had the latest LCD-screens anda much better knowledge about them... also, they were good enough to really speak the downsides of every TV. When I meet someone in a regular store that tries to sell me things I know is shit I want to punch them in the face... but I always recon they are working bee's so I just smile and say they are shit before walking out :)

My choice at the time was a Sony 32' KDL-V2500 or something like that.
It's just a 720p (1080i), but after some color correcting it looks really great.
Of course it was a while ago and there are cheaper TV's now that are better and bigger but... I'm happy with it. If I want better I'm going to buy a 1080p projector instead.

Highest class HDMI? It is a digital signal so the cable either works or does not work. Or are you talking about the protocol?

Robert Adler is rolling in his grave.
