We love r3d no question. but till now its still a bit too much for majority of red or future scarlet 2/3 users. is there a possibility that just as the camera now creates proxies, it could actually record rec 709 only 4:4:4 to the sheer codec. Its quick time based encodes quickly and is virtually lossless. this will make this a rebel filmmakers dream camera. Just something to consider.

Natress what are drawbacks? is it possible? or will it go against Reds proprietary goals?

I don't know the official answer. But it seems Jim has made it very clear they are sticking with their R3D codec. Even the stills will be shot in R3D.

There will be an RGB recording mode and a RGB Redcode that would serve a similar purpose, but the specifics are unknown.

Too much? Too much data? Sheer files would be much bigger, and therefore probably require more powerful post production hardware to deal with them. What is the advantage?

Chris I thought this was the opposite, isn't sheer codec 4:4:4 lighter or almost the size of DV, virtually loss less
