  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet theory

I do think that this thread is useless.

Jim's statement however is hard to understand for a non-native speaker. I study English and I am not sure what he meant exactly.

Does "should" mean here that:
a) he thinks it is worth twice the cost for the body although they wont sell it for that price?
b) or that it will be about that price?

The latter wouldn't really make sense because how can the lens that is included in a system have twice the price of the whole system...

Explain it to me what he meant, please!

A. The correct answer is "A".

What Jim was saying is that if they were anyone else, they would charge in excess of $6K for the lens alone. But since they are RED, they are going to charge around $3K for the whole camera, lens included.

Call it what you will, but at it's core, the statement is marketing hype. Of course they said all the same things about the RPP's and they were right. So I'm expecting the 8X fixed zoom to be amazing.

Apparently this thread is not useless.

Touché! Let's call it: teech se germ-man!

Thank you! Then my first hunch was right. But I got insecure...

A little "hyping" is part of RED marketing; I like it! Especially when it comes from Jim personally. Better than a clever marketing company selling something as "BIGGER" which then is 2/3 of an inch... :001_tongue:

Actually I had an avid discussion with a business student who said after I explained to him everything about RED and REDUSER that it wasn't actually Jim posting but some marketing department...

DISBELIEVERS!! :furious3:

Don't feel too bad. I am a native english speaker and I too was confused by the quote. First time I read it my heart sank because I thought Scarlet was going to be 2X more expensive.
