With all the attention around Epic, I think some scarlet buyers here would love to start seeing something more focused towards us. I realize that scarlet is gaining from being in epics development shadows, so it is not a complaint, just a strong burning desire that needs to be filled. I somewhat suspect that for every epic you sell, you'll sell 4 to five scarlets.

Would love to see some footage from the 8x and 2/3. Forget the naysayers who criticized images in the past. I want to dream about what my footage will look like against any HD camera.

I'm heading to Africa next week and going to some seriously cool places (Dankil depression in Ethiopia). Unfortunately a couple of canons are going to be packed, but Red will give me a reason to return. The Dallol area would be incredible in 3k (ok it would be even better in 5k) but for documentaries I need to be compact!

If you need someone to test these bad beasts in the hottest and most extreme place on earth, I'm your man! In the mean time just hope my DSLR can handle the heat.

Epic is their new RED One, their flying flag... Scarlet is a step below that. So expect to see a lot more epic news compared to Scarlet

Hey Michael, best wishes on your trip. I too would love to see some more information on Scarlet and all it's capabilities, heck I'd love for them to just be shipping right now because I simply cannot afford EPIC.

However, I think a lot of people on here already have money put forward towards an EPIC and they do deserve to come first before us Scarlet buyers. Should there be a best of both worlds? Of course. But if it comes down to it, I'd rather see EPIC buyers serviced before those of us interested in Scarlet. Don't worry. It will come eventually. We all had the same feelings before the Red One started shipping :)

Plenty of people here, including some RED team members, who are confident that Scarlets will be shipping by the end of this year. That being the case, you really don't have much more time to wait until you can just go out and buy one. End of the year is only a few months away.

what I am suggesting is just catering to their other market as well. I'm sure we'll be worth it. I know people have put there money forward on epic, give me the chance on scarlet and I will too. I'd buy two today, and maybe another tomorrow S35.

No gripes here. Happy to see epic stuff. Would just love to see some scarlet as well. It's a nice shade of Red!

I wish I could get one before christmas, but am not counting on it. I'll be lucky if I'm around internet when it happens.

All the more reason why RED is going to take their sweet time to get it right.
Scarlet inherits most of the features developed for EPIC, so you really are enjoying its development at the same time. Just copy and paste the text and replace EPIC with Scarlet ... that should help your impatience in the meantime :)

Agreed, maybe even more. It would seem to me that Red has much more to gain from the Scarlet than Epic. How many hvx200's has panasonic sold? Scarlet has the potential to be the prime real estate camera for prosumers for years to come.

How do you know that sales volume will equate to more gain? Less cost = lower margins, then add more support team required to handle more complaints, more service related infrastructure and the ROI is less attractive than small batch EPIC's (short term) long term, it can be more lucrative than EPIC... IF it is bullet proof and the latter equals testing delays...

With the whining that goes on here regarding ship dates, I can only imagine the whining that will occur when a product ships...(not talking about anyone in this thread) but RED ONE was equal parts elation and frustration as it was one of the largest beta tests of a product ever...

Good things come to those who wait and remember, RED wants to ship Scarlet 10000 times more than you or any one person wants to buy one.

I always feel like the more progress we hear from Epic, the more progress Scarlet is getting. I mean, how different are they, especially the scarlet s35 and epic s35?

I agree, but again I think they cater to different markets.

I'm cool waiting as well, and I'd prefer they perfect the camera first. just if they have cool stuff they can share, such as photos of the finished, still taken from the camera, or even footage, then why cater to all markets. There doing it for epic, why not scarlet.

I'm on the fence with this one. As mentioned before, Scarlet profits from everything the RED TEAM learns about the EPIC. And as EPIC is pushing the limits in all directions, that is the more spectacular achievment. Also Epic is further along in the development. Scarlet's fixed lens is probably also a complicated feature to be "debugged" carefully first.

On the other hand I would love for them to celebrate the anticipation with us by letting out more about Scarlet. I am amazed by everything that EPIC can do, but I know that I will never own one nor (most probably) shoot on one. I'm excited about the Scarlet because with it's pricepoint (at least as it was announced before) it is within reach for me.

But with RED, patience is everything; and playing the hype down!

I am stage II.. So I want my Epic.. SCREW Scarlet... However I also plan to buy a Scarlet...

SO WHEN THE HELL IS SCARLET SHIPPING!!?!?!

Heh heh heh.. I am SO Bi-Polar.

Not me. I'd like to trade up from my 7D as soon as possible, for my small-budget shoots. I don't care about any bells and whistles, either. As long as it does what a DSLR does and has the M-X sensor (2/3" is fine) and 3k, it'll be a gigantic improvement.

The Epic, I can wait for. I'm pretty happy using a Red One M-X, for my larger-budget shoots. Sure, it'll be nice to use a lighter Epic, and get all the sweet framerates and 5k to be able to crop into (though I'm a bit worried that my computer will be able to handle it), and HDRx is gonna be soooo nice; but really, the Red One has everything I absolutely need.

They gave us a picture of the prototype and the small clip, wasn't full res or even HD but it was something. Now it's not much but I'm not really in any position to complain. On pre-ordering scarlets the issue is the red one trade in's and different options hence the stages and pre-order. Plus I believe I remember Jim mentioning that they should have a large supply of scarlets ready to hit the market when they are released (not sure on that one).

No matter what they have not forgotten Scarlet same program but at the same time very different, not much you can do now but sit back and wait.

So, Aaron, does this mean you think they might be coming before year end?

Well Jim did say the lull was over and things will happen much faster now. End of the year is not out of reach.
At the latest maybe by NAB next year?

Hmm, now I'm thinking Scarlet might be the big thing at CES. It kinda fits the timetable...

why have I got the impression that people have this feeling that "scarlet" would be something less than Red One?
there is going to be several scarlet models, fron 2/3" 3K up to 6k, and up to 100mb/s, so it should be impossible to say "Scarlet is" either more or less than Red one.
I don't understand.
