Hi,

Just a quick question...

Is the "Stills" mode for the Red Scarlet operational yet? If so, How?

Thank you

Sometime after they designed the side handle with the still/motion switch, the concept changed:

Hi Todd,

Thanks for the link. Ill stick to pulling still from the 4K footage for now.

Pierre, what I did for my stills setup, if I don't need motion, is that I created a 5K stills preset which I activate via the stills/motion slider.

Along with that I set it to 5:1 redcode and set the trigger to record only as long as it's held down. (Half press activates the auto focus, full press records, release stops record.)
That creates a shooting mode similar to a DSLR setup using continuos mode.

Then I also have a preset to reset to standard recording mode quickly if I have it set up on a tripod and need the camera to remain perfectly still.
And of course switching the slider to M activates my preferred 4K motion preset.

D'oh just realised that the way I set my camera up is mentioned in the thread posted above... should have read it first I guess.

Hehehehe,

Thanks Patrick. No hassles, Ill put it down to "Driving the point home"! :001_tongue:

Side-note: AF is disabled in 5k. ;)
Thats why i sometimes shoot try shooting stills in 4k, but the AF on my Scarlet and with my lenses mostly doesn't perform good enough to make me sacrifice the resolution.

Then I also have a preset to reset to standard recording mode quickly if I have it set up on a tripod and need the camera to remain perfectly still.
I use the record button on the SSD-side-module or the one on my REDMOTE for that, they're not automatically mirroring the behavior of the button on the side-handle.

I've also included a default shutter-speed in my presets, because if i switch to stills i want to use higher shutter-speeds and change them wildly to get the exposure right. I start with 1/100th for stills and reset to 1/48th for motion. You could also include switching between angle and time for shutter-display, but i prefer time for both modes.

BTW, 5k/8fps/RC3:1 is also a good setting.

Shooting 5k-burst-series without quickly filling up buffers is really great. I'm always surprised how fast the DSLRs give up.... ;)

Oh damn yes of course you're right. The half press is only on my 4K stills setting. :) well thinking first and writing second has helped a lot of people. I'll try that next time! :) EDIT : I wrote that wrong - I only USE it on the 4K of course but I still left it for the 5K setting , hoping for future changes :) hey, one can dream, right?

+1 for the aperture settings. For motion I set it to 180deg and for stills I'm starting out with 1/100 as well.
And a big +1 for 3:1 @ 8fps. But I still love the 12 fps too much so I don't switch often enough which I should :)
I hope there's some Epic budget in my wallet this year

Thanks for the other tips. Don't know why I didn't think of just using the other record button. Because I even put the one on the SSD into activation mode for pre record :). I guess this brings me back to the thinking part- hehehe
