I know it was announced in one of the announcements that the scarlets could shoot stills, but does anyone have any more info on this, seeing as I am weighing up buying a fixed scarlet or Canon 5d mk II. Do they just shoot 3k stills, or higher (a.k.a something like 10+ megapixels?)

Thanks

It will shoot at the native resolution of the sensor. Since the 2/3" Scarlet shoots 3K resolution (horizontally), you'll be looking at roughly 5~6 MP stills.

I think you should look at the sensor format more then megapixels. The 3k Scarlet is a 2/3" sensor while the 5DmII is full frame. That is a huge difference. If you have FF35 lenses already there would be a 3.56 crop factor involved when using them on the 3k Scarlet. http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=519532#post519532

If you don't have lenses already then the miniRED primes look to be a fantastic (and fast) option for the 3k Cinema Scarlet. The fixed zoom on the fixed Scarlet will probably be fantastic as well.

and expect different DOF

Will it have live view in still mode. Also, how about a live 3-colour histogram?

Live View is just a marketing term, but yes you will be able to monitor the image electronically at 720, 1080 and 2k while shooting in stills mode.

There is a 3-color histogram and many other image analysis tools, including false color, available as well.

Great. Thanks! I also need to find out what is the exact focal length range of the 8x lens. I understand that it's not published yet.

Thanks, but I was looking for some information on the actual range of the zoom lens (in any unit, I can then work out the FOV).

I was answering the OP, but I misread his post and thought that he HAD a 5d, but now I realize that he is considering between the two.

The last unofficial info we had on the 8x it was something like 7.2-57mm at T2.4.

It's F2.4 / T2.6. I took a guess at the zoom range of 7.5-60mm and Jarred told me I was "close".
